12-08-07, 07:11 PM
i use bonnet pins because, wen i poped the bonnet (tryed to po the bonnet) the catch came off and the cable got stuck on the brake master cylinder and took it straight off, so im stickin with the pins, we all have diffrent tastes.
if i was you id go with a redtop although the 1.7 diesal's go well a mate of mine had one, standard it was probley just as quick as a gsi if not quicker. good look anyway fella i hope it all go's to plann;) :thumb:

Been Up The Breakers And Bought Some 16v Brakes And Painted Them As Well As That I Have Repainted Some Second Hand G Max Springs And Shocks Which Will Be Going On Soon. Also Started To Custom The Rear Of The Van With Grey Carpet. I Will Hopefully Be Going Some Work On It Next Weekend And Show Some Pics.

Well I have got the car back from my brother in laws. It has had some welding done on it. So thought i would do the wheel arches and the side skirts today. Well what can i say It took me tha whole day to do just one side.
I used the method of putting double sided tape on each clip and then drill hole and rivited the clips on will red oxide primer on each rivit to stop the rusting. One tip i would recommed it on each clip i filed the little bits on plastic that it on the body work so the tape stuch better. Worked a treat.

bloody hell ive just spent the last few days carpeting the back of mine, how did you attatch the blue pannels over the rear window section mate because im stumped
KITT1972
06-09-07, 08:00 AM
I got the rear glass and copied that with about 5mm all round th edge and traced it onto a sheet of ply. Also stuck some wood onto the panel of metel with no nail so I could attach the board to it. Do you have any pic of your van and inside would love to see.
you could get some gte/gsi rear arch carpets, they cover the whole lot not just the front. Smart looking van, like the wheels
bigbened
06-09-07, 03:32 PM
yep ive done the same andcarpeted them just couldent work out how the hell to attatch the things lol, is the rest of the carpet just spray glued on?
KITT1972
06-09-07, 05:12 PM
Yes they are all glue on, but i did get the plastic panels from the cars. and the piller covers so all the finish would be nice.
im not a fan of vans but this one looks brilliant. the wheels set it off really good. i can see some more novas with these on in the near future lol
keep it up :thumb:

Well Today was a was a good day i made a start on the central locking and electric windows. I managed to get some moters for the windows but i couldnt find the soilinoids for the doors, so bought a kit off ebay and modded it into the loom. Not a hard job and looks good i will post pics when i next get a chance to do the car.
I also had the best result this week. I wanted to get rid off the bonnet pins that i have on the bonnet. So set out on buying a new bonnet. Looked on ebay and bought i bonnet in blue with in intenetion of getting it sprayed. On picking it up it was the right colour what a result just needed a good t cut and polish

Well now that christams is out the way i thought i would make some real progress on the van instead of just going lots of little bits. It is now time for the real power to take place as i really want to have some fun in this van in the summer and attend as many shows and regional meets as poss.So it was time to take the diesal engine out the van and get the engine bay welded up and a few patches needed to as there are a few holes where there shouldnt be, below is what i did today.
Below is the engine as it was
http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb276/KITT1972/P8280053.jpg
Then taking out the engine today

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb276/KITT1972/PA190081.jpg
I have to then think about getting the front mount welding in as there isnt won being a diesal
The xe lump is almost done just need a cam belt and pullies and a new clutch, the rocker cover and the cam cover are being painted at the moment going to be white.
Thanks for looking let me no what you think

Good going there, love the re-upholstered boot panels. Looks nice. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread Kittmeister.

Looking real nice mate, good luck with the build, goin to be a bit of a pain changing from diesel to petrol with all the wiring needing putting in place and so forth. Did you not think about a 1.7td conversion out of an astra 3? has anyone on here done one before, sounds interesting to me.

Thanks for all your comments as its nice to see people taking and intrest in the van. I bought it off ebay for ?600 with no wheels but took these wheels with me when i collected the van. I am leaving the diesal loom in the van. There isnt to much you need to change when doing the xe conversion as its a simple loom olny wires i need to use are the ones for the dash which are already there.
Thanks to baxter all wires have now bee located and i just need to get the engine bat welded and painted

Ripped your nova apart? what do you mean by this? i'm guessing you tuned it up then cause theyre pretty reliable engines otherwise, what did it go like with the 1.7td in it? the best conversion sounds like the 1.9cdti out of a new vectra or astra, that'd be mint. 150bhp standard + loads of torque and tuning potential.

Well just to keep you up to date if you are following this thread. Today I decided that i would have a go at putting my sri windscreen in. Well i had a go and i managed to do it only prob was the person before had used so much windscreen sealer that i managed to crack the old screen (Sorry Paul ). I also finished off the inside of the van I was missing the wheel arch covers which i have now covered. And finally i started to polish my magnex exhaust. Pic below

Hi Dec
Well the car is going away tommorrow to be welding not sure when it will be back. once the van is back i guess it will take me about 6 to 8 weeks and it will be up and running i wouldnt say it would be finished as there is still a lot more to do to get it up to scratch as for looking like my last sr i will try my best but i dont think i will get it to that standard. But i have set my self a bugdet on this van. And the total so far which will included the engine in and running plus the number plate it owes me ?1800. Hope to bump into you soon cant wait to see you sport looks like its going to be a leader in its field.
KITT1972
16-02-08, 11:30 PM
well picked up the van tonight and all the welding has been done. Egine mount has been done, all the seams have been welded and a little bit in the battery tray. But i wish that was the end of the story on the welding but its not. I think the Van has a spell on it coz the welding guy managed to set Fire to the inside of the car. Its not to bad a need a new carpet and under dash tray also all the soundening under the dash as been burnt, as will need replacing whole inside of the dash as white dust in to were a fire exsitgusher was used.
But he has made a good job of the welding.
Will post picks of welding tomorrow
hi bud that sound poo.
As for the under dash trays i think i have some spare bud.

So its all systems go now. I was hoping to put the engine in week weekend, but i cant wait so i think im going to to it this weekend if my mate gives me a hand this weekend if not it will have to be next weekend. Below or some update pics. I have stripped the loom back as its a disal loom and removed all the diesal wiring and added some of the wires for the xe.

And at long last made some real progress on the van, with the help from a mate. So the engine is in at long last, and i must say it looks really good if i do say so myself.

No im affraid not the union on the mark two is different one has a size 10 spannner and the other a size 12 also the are shapped different when they go into the brake cylinder. But other than that they are the same. I have used the brake line that goes from the flexi onto the rear subframe as mine where rusted in. Thanks you that Dec

well this is how i feel about the van at the min:mad: . Got it all done at the weekend but cant get the gear selector lined up its a bitch then got it to select a few gear so took it for a short spin. It hesitates on load so i was seeing if i could see what the problen was so i cleen the idle speed control value and put it back now van wont start. So you would think the problem would be to do with that. Well after spending some time and sleeping on it i went right back to basics and it turn out the fuel pump has stopped working. Thought it might be the wiring so checked the output on the fuel relay and it is given 12v to pump, I ran a wire to fuel pump to battery and undid the fuel pipe just incase it was primed and it does spin it just click GREAT new fuel pump needed. Not sure if modded cars is for me.
bad luck scott! I can completely sympathise with you, as i 'm sure most of the other users on here can! Sort out the teething troubles fella, it'll be worth it in the end!

if you need help with the gear linkage i can tell you over the phone how to do it. you need someone to help you tho. let me no if you need help with it mate.
KITT1972
26-03-08, 08:19 AM
thanks i will let you no but i think i am doing it right usinga 4.5mm drill bit leaving it in neutral and lining up marks in the turret with gear stick ????????
chrisnovaturbo
27-03-08, 12:09 AM
sound like ur doing it right,
are you putting the drill bit in and then twisting the end of the selector on the gearbox and it slots in more and holds the gear selector in place and you then cant move it???
then you need someone inside the car holding the gear stick in the middle and hold it left but without putting it in the reverse slide, if you no what i mean.
make sure the linkage hasnt got loads of play as you will wasting ur time.
then do the 13mm up pull drill bit out and should be ok and get every gear 1st time.
hope this helps.

27-03-08, 07:40 PM

I had the pleasure of seeings this yestarday and i can confirm that it is every bit as nice as in the photos. It's a real credit to you Scot and i think anyone would be proud to have built such a smart, clean Nova.
The engine sounds real good, almost fruity and certainly packs a punch!

Cheers for the paypal Scott.

I stumbled across this WIP while it was around page 7. After reading all Scott's adventures, including sorting the teething problems, I feel like offering Scott a pint for the effort as well as for the result! Top job, well done. :)
It's been quite some time since I rebuild Project Snap, and the feeling of setting fire at regular intervals to some dreaded Nova-shaped automotive contraption is all too familiar. Yet, I would do it again. Nova's are that cool.
Rebuilding Nova's must be a bit like relationships. You give some, take some, sweat some, swear lots (in my case anyway) and in the end it works out quite jolly nicely. Okay that's enough philosophical ranting for today.
Enjoy the XE'd van mate! :thumb:
Cheers,
Niek

Well what have a been up to this weekend, well after having had two teeth pulled out in hospital on friday, I thought i would have a weekend of not doing anything, but I just cant sit still so I thought i would list what i had done well I hadnt let you all no that i had put a digi dash in the van so thats the first thing, then i decided that i would put some sort of lighting in the back on the van so I have hidden away for small blue LEDS and some switches to turn them on. As the Van is comming along I am starting to plan the sound system. Its not going to be big or expensive as this whole van has been done a a budget, my mate have me this 10" sub so i am going to start from that, I already have some 6x9" in the van floor and sme 3" mids in the doors so really just need to make some sort of housing for the sub and the 6x9 as they sound sh8t where they are. Also had a bit of a tidy up in the garage Pics are all below.http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb276/KITT1972/000_0063.jpg

Also i have been bored so made a start on the sounds. I am not going for big sounds just want it to sound nice.I will be having and 8" sub with 6x9s and and mids in the doors. Each side of the subs will be the amps which i have colour coded the same as the car and engine. which will be behing persex which will be lite up.
