Last night I got as far as removing the standard one, removing the crown wheel and putting that on the Tran X one.

Problem is what the hell do I do with the speedo drivegear as there is nothing on the LSD to install it on?

Small block, for a F13. There are some holes where something may go but can you remove the bearing what the speedo drivegear runs on?

EDIT - Craig that sounds about right

?500 give or take a bit is the "norm"

you can warm up the speedo ring in hot water and very very very very carefully ease it off the old diff, then again equally as carefully ease it onto the new diff. Trust me you will snap atleast one.

I had a good attempt at removing the bearing last night but it won't budge albeit without warming it up.

The actual gear came off very easily (the slightly flexible bit) but I'm left with the metal 'ring' and tried all sorts of prising, hammering etc but it would not move and now looks a little chewed up (journal is fine still).

Can you buy new ones still, would it be a standard part or a Tran X special?

Just rang Tran X up and they said it is not possible to run the speedo drivegear with their diff

Down to the bike shop for a cateye then?

Actually SIGMA speedos are the ones to use.

SIGMA? Will do a google for them, why is it anything I do causes twice the work, I just wanted to have a LSD ffs!

bike speedos are ok, but a bit gash looking.

its usually wise to use new diff bearings.

I have a digi dash in at the mo, surely there must be way to use a digital type speed sensor and connect that to the dash

The digi transducer & actually all speedo drives or pulse generators are driven off the speedo ring.

If you devise a pick up from anywhere else (wheel, driveshaft, brake disc) it will need calibrating.

its usually wise to use new diff bearings.

How do you tension the new bearings correctly? I have a special tool to refit the lock ring but wasnt sure on correct torque settings etc to refit it.

Ive always done the crown nut up till the diff stops turning by hand, then back off till it turns "freely" (like how you do rear wheel bearings)

I'm sure i saw something like this on Dan R's project ?

yeah hes got a gripper (same thing really), tried to fit the speedo drive but didnt use it in the end in favor of a magnetic drive (like a cycle comp) speedo in his custom dash

How far did he get in trying to fit the speedo drive?

I want to keep my digi dash if I can and get the speedo to work using a different sensor, even maybe modify it with a bike speedo display where the speedo is???

I don't really want to get a custom display and have countless dials everywhere as I'll still need to see my oil pressure, water temp etc.

On the gripper i got the speedo ring on no problems, its just i never used it as i fitted an SPA digital speedo ... ala...

much easier

and a pic of it working all be it mounted into a pod (can be fitted into the dash or whatever)

anyone got that issue of TV to hand with the mk2 astra champion turbo with the carbon bonnet? He used something that fitted in place of the speedo in the digi dash. As well as speed it told him 1/4mile times, 0-60, etc. Think it was off a motorbike and used an ABS ring for the speed pick-up...

this one does similar things

I have the SPA speedo in mine, cos I had to remove my speedo drive due to it fouling on the gear linkage...

It runs off a magnet on the CV joint and is .04mph accurate apparently! lol

best/cheapest option. I checked!

Ok as we have a few people vieiwing this here are some pictures of how i set my sender etc up, as will said its just a simple case of mounting the magnet on the cv and the sender within a few mm of it........*tom i'll sort the other thing out tomorrow for you*
