my drive shaft is moving

Was fiddling around with my coilovers at weekend and happened to spin the wheel and kept hearing a little clonking noise.

on further investigation if i get hold of the drive shaft it moves up and down inside the out CV joint. Is it safe to say that is the CV joint thats buggard and not the shaft. as it still drive ok. i just cant picture how a cv joint can get that much move ment inside it unless the balls have all shrunk

There is in/out movement within the CV joints because otherwise the shafts would need to be telescopic. Are you sure the CV is knocking? Was it at full lock or dead center steering?

Dont worry about it, its quite normal.
If it clunks etc when driving (and you can hear it) then you know there is a prob.

it moves in and out along its length but they all do but i have movement up and down eg from the ground to the sky movement up and down about 10mm each away but its still drives lol
