recently ive put my 1.3 head 1.4 bottom end conversion in my nova.

im useing a kent 320 degree cam also.

its all been time'd up useing the markers on the vernia and on the crank pully. but it doesnt seem to be right.
is there another way to time the engine because of the vernia?

also could someone tell me which way the HT leads are meant to be, i think ive got them the right way but i am not sure

What doesn't seem right about it?

you can run it on a RR to see what difference advancing/retarding the vernier does.

Ht leads are 1,3,4,2 in a anti-clockwise direction starting at the top right of the dizzy cap.

Can I ask why people tend to put a 1300 head onto other bottom ends??

Cheers

Its a good head, with decent ports and it will also up the compression ratio a bit.

OK cheers, is it better than a 1600 head?

the 1600 head has better ports and valves, but lowers compression too far.

Have you checked the ignition timing as well?

best way to static time the engine up is to get it to Number 1TDC (on the exhaust/intake stroke not the compression->power stroke) and then with the cam spec dial in the lift at TDC....

OR at about 104-106degrees of crank after TDC the cam "should" be at maximum lift.... then nip up the vernier pulley.

sorry to have hijacked this thread, but if I were to skim a 1600 head to get the compression back up would this the be better, or is the 1300 still the better head to go with?

Cheers

I'm sure you could have started another thread for this question but as a Noob we could let you off this once.

If you've got a 1400 block the best head to go with I believe is the 1400 mpi head as this is pretty much identical to the 1600 head but with a smaller combustion chamber, thus no skimming required. Although you could still skim the 1400 mpi head if you wanted to get the CR up a bit from standard.

1300 head is still a step up from the 1400 head with square inlet ports but 1400mpi head is the way to go.

thanks for the info again people ;) im terrable at sorting out the timing. il print this off now and show it to my mate whos doing the job :D

it doesnt run right as in, i have spark, but no ignition in the head. i was thinking that it has to be with the timing or the plugs lay out. prehaps i messed up when i put new leads on
