Newbury has never flooded in my lifetime. The old lady next door tells me its never flooded in HER lifetime either.

However, I get home from work today to find this...

Turns out the water was even higher than that diring the day. You can see by the watermark on the back of the passenger seat how high it actually was.

My mates Escort was parked next to it. He's only had it a day or two and its the nicest car he's ever owned. I really feel for him TBH, he was gutted. Funniest thing was though that once we got into the river which used to be our cul-de-sac and pushed them onto dry land, the Escort emptied immediately, and the bastid Nova didnt leak a drop. I ended up having to stab loads of holes in the bottom of the drain plugs to empty the water out thanks to the sound deadening.

I set about the Nove with a can of WD and she fired up on 3, then eventually 4 so im chuffed that the water didnt make it up to the carb!

The water also got into the house, luckily only by about an inch so all its done is kill the carpets. Still rather be doing things this weekend than gutting the ground floor :(

lol

I really feel for you guys in the flooded areas - I live in Scotland which seems to have had the warmest mildest weather in the whole of the fecking UK - even though it rained for almost all of June!

For those that are thinking of moving house soo DONT move within 1 mile of a river - or at least make sure youre at lease 20ft above the nearest one and theres flat rland all round it. I work in insurance and I can guarantee that most companies wont touch flood risks after thie year - meaning that a large part of the country will have to pay HUGE premiums to get cover.

Some poor sods have had to claim 3 times so far - I really feel for them.

If you aint got it in place now get home insurance (Buildings and contents) - you'll regret it later if you dont and get flooded.

The wiring loom may well be screwed too :(
.

Agreed, give it a week or so and it'll probably start to rot. A new loom wont be hard to slap in anyway, especially as im stripping it out

lol Ash, that definately would have helped.

21-07-07, 02:05 AM
Thats harsh news mate, you might need to steam clean the seats and carpets on a hot day to get them as far back to normal as possible and get some silica gel in the car to dry the shell out effectively.

craig green
21-07-07, 02:05 AM
Proper gutted for you. Not what you need & shame about the interior & EVERYTHING!

Alex.
21-07-07, 11:35 AM
at least they've shut up about global warming
Balls, the rain is all supposedly due to global warming too

Lee, felt really gutted for you when you called yesterday, hopefully the water won't have caused too much damage - at least the cars still there and working, I've seen some clips on the news of cars being washed away!

(If I sounded a bit odd on the phone btw its because I was hiding in the garage from the rain and holding a freshly painted GTE bumper up with one finger lol)

/Jack

Ahaa, so you DO use Alex's profile. lol

Noted for future reference!

21-07-07, 11:41 AM
As previously stated you will need to get them steam cleaned mate, if ya know a valeter get them to blather all your seats with interior cleaner and give em a good hot steaming out, only prob is they will need a good few weeks in somewhere warm and dry to dry out thoroughly, otherwise they will smell really musty especially if you just leave them to dry out as they are, your interior will stink and thats not good lol!!

Alex.
21-07-07, 11:43 AM
lol yeah, i'm on her windoze profile and couldn't be bothered to change to me :D

I experienced it 1st hand the last time when yorkshire flooded, destroys everything, can relate to what ya going through its awful and feels like the authorities dont give a toss,i abondoned ship and moved to my lasses in scarborough. The 'rents are starting to regain normality but still no work carried out by insurance companys nearly 6weeks on!

Lee
21-07-07, 05:50 PM
Been busy today. Spent the morning sorting most of the house out, then started on the car..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/DSC00200-1.jpg

The sub box which someone built (one of the previous owners lol) was built like a brick sh1te house. No wonder it sat so low at the back! Getting rid of this thing ought to bring the PTW ratio up a bit!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/DSC00201-1.jpg

Luckily theres a covered ally between our house and the neighbours. Ill leave the seats there for a while and see if they dry out. Im going to keep an eye out for some leather at the same time though :)

When I was peeling my sound deadening off it felt fairly moist underneath it - wasn't stuck down as tight as I had thought. You removing it to ensure it's properly dry?

Lee
21-07-07, 05:58 PM
yeah, theyre like giant sponges, plus its always nice to srip some weight out :)

Im only going to put carpet back in too, feck the underlay stuff lol

Iain
21-07-07, 06:02 PM

Lee's boss "I think it's flooded"
Now that was the easy bit done. The trouble started just past juntion 14 were we got stuck in traffic for about 3 hrs.
But at the end of the day the nova is now drying out nicely and cheers for an eventfull evening Mr Lee and hope you got all sorted back at home.
