anyone know if all F13 gearboxes are five speed? I was wondering cos when I fitted it I did a quick run of the gears to make sure it was o.k, and after fourth gear i went to move up into fifth and the gearstick wouldn't move over, ended up forcing it and snapping the linkage. if they are all five speed anyone know what the problem could be?

sweet !

the F13 is a 5 speed box. as Will said try pushin down (as for reverse) on the gearstick and going for fifth. you should find fifth this way this.
the linkage needs to be adjusted a fraction.

F13 is available in 4 OR 5 speeds! f13 cr is only in 5! check on the gearbox ner where the selector is and it should state what type of box it is, f10, f13, f13cr etc.

Just about anything goes as regds Nova boxes - don't believe what you read. If you look ontop of the box by the selector housing it should show a diagram of the gears. Disconnect the linkage near there and check each gear out by hand.

had a look at the box, just says F13 and there's no diagram of the gears either :-/, if it is in fact a 4-speed box, would i be able to take the gear clusters out of my 1.4SR box (F10) to give me the 5 gears, or shall i just go back to the breakers(who told me it was a five speed) and shove it where the sun don't shine?

iv only ever seen 5 speed f13's in all vuaxhall books iv seen, astra/nova/corsa!!!!

the idea of the f13 is tjhe bigger bell housing over the f10, so bigger clutch+more power, so why kill it with only 4 gears?

have u tired disconnecting the linkage and finding the gears by moving it by hand?

as i said F13 is 5 speed X-(
so you need to mess around with the linkage, a small movement left or right could be the difference between not selecting reverse or fifth

The easiest way to set up the gearlinkage is to put the car in neutral and put an 8mm drillbit into the hole on the front of the selector mechanisn.

You will feel it click in in the correct place. Then move the gearstick to be neutral and tighten the linkage.. remove the 8mm drillbit and replace the little plastic thingy in the hole and away you go.. may need tweaking so try it again moving the lever one way or the other to compensate..
