For sale: mk1 nova GTE with a C20XE (redtop) engine
SPARES OR REPAIR
OK i bought this car just before christmas.
It used to be a mk1 nova GTE untill it was converted to a 2.0 XE using all the right Chris Astley conversion parts, i.e engine mounts, drive shafts, hubs etc....
Basically i used this car as an everyday run around for about 4 months without a single problem, started first time everytime and never missed a beat i couldnt fault it.
Then it cut out one day and has never started again.
Ive spent quite a few hours looking at it and trying different things to get it started but still no joy.
The problem is that its not sparking.
I have replaced everything from the spark plugs back to the coil amplifier, ie:
Spark plugs,
leads,
dizzy cap,
rotor arm,
coil lead,
coil,
coil amplifier.
and still it wont spark.
someone i knew had exactly the same problem on their XE nova and they got the engine re-wired (about ?160) and it was fine ever after.
It also needs a new front pannel, as it has cracked where the tie rods bolt too, common problem on these conversions so ive been told.

right time for the good and bad points:
GOOD POINTS:
*VERY VERY strong shell, the mot place said they havent seen a nova as stong as this one for years.
*MOT untill february 2008
*Very strong and quiet engine (when it was running obviously!!) pulled like a train, had covered around 80,000 miles when i bought it but obviously cant prove this.
*Four new wheel bearings
*Chris Astley drive shafts and oversized hubs, the drivers side has only seed about 100 miles of use.
*All the CV joints and boots (inner and outer) are less that 250 miles old
*Coscast head
*It has had a low milage gearbox put on just before i bought it (again cant prove milage)
*Solid arches
*Digidash conversion
*Solid floors
*Two nearly new tires on the rear
*Big brake conversion on the front (astra GSI)
*Braided hoses on the front brakes
*uprated shocks and springs
*Recaro front seats (stripped rear)
*sun roof oohh er!!
BAD POINTS:
*Doesnt start obviously!
*will need a new front pannel or plating and welding
*needs a shorter handbrake cable
*some play in steering rack from where i dislocated my shoulder and had to give it all the truck driver steering!
*no sunvisors
*no door locks
*stone chips on front bumper
*no heaters
Thats all i can think of for now if i remember anything else i will add it.
This could be an amazing and rapid road car again or a track car whatever you decide too do with it, i have just run out of time and money.
this will be a very sad sale as i have had loads of fun in this gokart.
sensible offers considered.
cheers, dave
