View Full Version : steering wheel and dials
how do you remove the steering wheel and dials and wire the rev counter on the Gsi dials for a 1.2 and how do you fit a gsi steering wheel.
cheers craig:) :)
To remove the steering wheel, undo the large nut in the middle (leaving it on a few mm) and either pull extremely hard or get a steering wheel puller tool (Draper, ?10-15ish?). GSi wheel should simply fit on in its place and tighten up.
To remove the clocks you remove the black housing over it and undo the three screws securing it in. Not sure about wiring in the revcounter though.
i think on SOME looms the rev couner wire is allready there.. on mine they were and mine were 1.0l ones.. but i think i was just lucky.
with gsi dials. the oil gauge will not work with a standard loom.. it will just shoot up off the scale. sr clocks will be ok on the other hand.
moffat - is it mk1 or mk2 Nova you have? makes a difference re dash clock removal
IIRC you need to run a wire (Green?) from coil to the rev counter but not 100%
thing is a havent got a car but it will be a mk2
Steering wheel - Lever off the horn push to get to the nut on the steering column, then follow instruction as above.
Dials - On a Mk2, remove the dial cowling (4 hex screws, two on the front either side and two on the top at the back). You'll then see the dials are held in with three screws, one each side of the dial set and one on top. Undo these, and you should be able to shuffle the dial set out enough to get your hand down the back to unplug the wiring loom (1x multiplug) and the speedo cable (1x cable; feel for a metal clip on the back of the dials where the cable goes in. Push it towards the dials and withdraw the cable).
Rev counter - If the green wire isn't taped up in the loom behind the dash, you'll need to run a wire from the coil negative to the rev counter.

Here's a guide i did.
Also it might help to remove the speedo cable from the gear box and push it through the bulkhead a little. You might need to feed a bit through then wiggle the dials, then feed a little bit more through.
When I reconnected the speedo cable to the back of the dials I had to pass it through the other side of the metal bracket that sits behind the dials... you'll see what I mean when your having a go.
