so what is the difference then? is it just the colour of the rev tic?

nothing. Early ones had a tick style rev counter where as the later ones had a curved one. You need the right transdusor for the right dash. Engine/gearbox doesn't matter

Just the rev counter display yeah.
Both are 4pot engines, so the rev counter circuit etc is all the same.
