2.0l 8v problems

my mate has had my old 2.0l 8v seh engine in his car for about 6months now, sometimes wen he trys to start it it wont start, but if we disconect the mass air flow and reconect it, it then starts, dose it mean the mass air flows f**ked?:confused:

Id go with crap connections to start with... clean them up and maybe redo the joints and try that.
