my car has been running ruff for a while now,I have bought it a brand spankers new dizzy and some top quality HT leads(bosch super plus,n they look kool too B-) ) and some bosch plugs, this saw the car running very well indeed,2 days ago I was driving my car(ok gving it a lil bit of stick-no more than usual mind) and there was a pop sound,I thought that Id done some serious damage but the car was driving fine, and it proceeded to drive me round lincoln the next day and get me to work the day after, now after taking a harsh bend it decided to be really rough and splutter its way home, not liking to be in low revs,it enjoyed a good 3-4000rpm,after checking everything over all I can come up with is that the fuel filter is clogged(a 1400SR with pierburg 2e3 has one doesnt it?-the yellow thing?) or else there is some seriously scummy stuff at the bottom of my tank, and when its sloshed round it spreads round the petrol? I am going to try starting her today and seeing how she goes,if shes fine I think its the scum in the tank,if not wot could it be?-I need to know wot went pop also :( I have checked every pipe in the engine bay and alls fine :-/ it went pop ofter almost redlining the car in first, something I have done a fair few times when in the mood, but I wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary, anyone else had this problem or think of a solution?

red lining in 1st! - who were u racing?
what kind of pop was it - like a pressure pop or a backfire pop from the back of the car?
could have been a misfire? Have you checked the plugs since the pop - may have damaged one? My engine used to pop - turned out to be the head (and that was after the prev owner used the thrash it isn 1st and 2nd) - hope not but you never know. If running eratic, try carb cleaner (dunno if 1400sr has standard carb or injection - I only have humble 1.2!)

oh now, that is interesting!

has standard carb, only twin, the 1400sri has injection I believe. I was racing out of the car park at 12am,racing a corsa sri! I like racing these as I kick their asses regularly at the mo,it was a low pop,I aint sure if it was a backfire tho, sounded more frontal, but nothings broken in the engine bay,the plugs are fine and its running right as rain now,its well confusing my 1400!

car started running rought again last nite x-( it happened after navagating a harsh dip/bend in the road, this leads me on to believing it may be scum in my tank,or else a poor fuel filter? Im fitting my weber 32/34 over the next few days anyways,as it could be the carb playing up and I wanted to fit it for ages!-Im desperately forging on with my car as I want to go to donny show! :(
