Just because when i claimed my car off the rd and they didn't recieve my form they have given me a fine for 40 quid which i paid for today.
It's not much but still i sent off the f*kin form that claims it as sorn and if the post office and them can't manage to get stuff to one another then they are tards!
Anybody else paid a fine for the post office or DVLA/DSA's incompitance?
Decent Replies please.. Thanks.

IIRC you get a notification through the post after they have received your SORN.
It says on the SORN that if you don't receive the letter within 8 weeks or something that you should contact them. Therefore its your fault you got the fine :D
My last v5c when I bought project aspirin was marked as not known at this address by my posty... cnut!
When I first got my polo, the guy who had previously owned it hadn't declared it SORN, but we believed he had. They rang up and were going to charge us ?70 for it, we explained and they let us off :D
P.S - Do everything through the internet, then they get it asap. That's how I last did it. Especially with all these postpeople on strike.

Well the only problem i have with it mainly now is that 40 quid could have been spent on the nova lol.. !
any documents like that i always send recorded.then they cannot say they never recieved it..
plus you got proof of sending..

LOL. How would you know that, if you didnt receive the letter in the 1st place. lol

It's supposed to say it on the form that you fill in, in the 1st place i think. But i mite be wrong.
When did you send the form, and to which postcode? Believe me when I say DVLA have a myriad of different postcodes for each department - if your mail goes to the wrong one, they just discard it instead of forwarding it.
And as said, for official documents, Special Delivery is king. Recorded Delivery isn't worth toss IMO, as RM will still happily lose recorded mail and not tell you. Make sure you tell the post office you want it sent SPECIAL delivery as well, "recorded" won't cut it.
Incidentally, I wouldn't have said its their incompetance. Its up to you to chase them if you suspect something is amiss; in this case not receiving confirmation of SORN. So don't go crying just because you thought out of sight out of mind lol

I sent it to the address on the form that i got after the car was registered in my name i think so everything was correct on it and the envelope.
Also i had never done it before so i didn't realise that i needed to contact them after a certain number of weeks if i had no reply.
I would much rather learn from mistakes made by me or them - In this case it has taught me to use "Special Delivery" as you said.

The SORN details will be on any tax renewal notice & not necessarily the V5.
Worth knowing all the same (thanks Jack)
When you go to the post office do they not give you a receipt, sure they did with mine.

Thats if you SORN it in person at a PO counter.
Posting it to DVLA is a different matter.
Moral of the story do it in person, then theres no come back:)
Meh! ?40, i got hit with a ?60 fine for a car i sold!

I'm a student though lol ... When i work it's only casual i'm just glad that i got work in last week so got a bit more money to use up.
Im afraid it probably wasnt the DVLA's fault, the post office have been in a right funking state over the last few weeks.
Especially considering the strikes etc. Which is funking up my ebay delivery times :(
Do bear in mind you can tax/sorn your vehicle online as well, but if you're taxing it you have to do it a few days in advance to allow time for the tax disc to be posted to you. Remember its an offence to drive without displaying a valid tax disc (or displaying an invalid one) whether the car is taxed or not!
