Friends, fans, followers, wherever you may be - from Jakarta to Jamaica, Paris to Pittsburgh, Honduras to Hull – welcome one and all.

Well, I could only hold back the pulsing volcano of public demand for so long.

You wanted somewhere to touch base with me, somewhere you could feel near me, somewhere to look at my latest work - a ‘shrine’, if that’s not too strong a word. So I went and got myself a Mincing Thread.

Of late, some of you may have noticed numerous random threads made by myself, so I figured its not quite a project, its not overly serious, so it shall live in "muppet corner" where most of my threads come to life lol.

Some of my all time classic mincing can be found here (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83675), here (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82539), quite a bit more here (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74444) and a little more here (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80756).

So, presently on the go I've got the totally random carbon fibre parts, a half made strut brace, and an headlight that thinks its an Air Intake lol

I started work on the strut brace around 1month ago, and got this far...

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/engine%20convo/PICT0057.jpg

Once the base plates arrive, i can crack on with that. And then maybe finish this...

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/DSC00551.jpg

That i started way back in April 2006 sometime

So, until the next not so thrilling update, i bid you all my farewell :D

Right, after earning my coin for the day, and returning home at 12.30pm, a coffee, and a stare under the bonnet were in order...

Naturally, one thing lead to another, as it alwasy does with us mincers.... and LHAura breathed some of her first breaths of life!
A new dizzy drive plug which i borrowed from an Omega v6 at a scrap yard. Altho this Omega looked inconspiciously clean, still tax'ed and parked all alone  so I dont actually think it was being broke? I think it may have been some one's car

Anyway, got me and mighty Corsa back home, and started mincing :D voila, it runs. Altho like a bag of nails lol and whilst i had the time, i got a little arty farty....

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/engine%20convo/PICT0070-1.jpg

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/engine%20convo/PICT0074.jpg

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/engine%20convo/PICT0075.jpg

Thrilling isn't it lol anyway, i did notice that, in comprassion the force of the exhuast fume's now exiting the car compared to my SR has increased drastically!! There seem's to a be a whole lot of exhaust gas pressure compared to normal?

But, all was not good here at Levy towers.... i got the car running, idle speed approx 1200rpm as any less and the engine trys to stall.

I think the TPS may have had it, the reason i think that is below...

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/th_966b0844.jpg (http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/?action=view&current=966b0844.flv)

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/th_1effc65b.jpg (http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/?action=view&current=1effc65b.flv)

Now, you cant really hear it, but you can see the RPM jumping about like a rabbit on acid? Any ideas anyone?????

Other then that little problem, and the gear change being way out (reverse = 1st, 1st = 3rd etc) and it looking promising. Oh, besides the deathening tapping from the engine, so a complete cam kit and new lifters/tappets/springs etc will be gracefully ordered and fitted in the future.

So, anyone any ideas on the rough idle'ness/trying to cut out issue?

Mike.

Adam

Gear linkage is out, hence the 1st=reverse etc.
I dont think its the TPS.

Been out again faffing around with epoxy resin, and whilst it was drying, i came up with the following.

I call it the MincerTronic 2000

Firstly, you need some decks. I used an Ameter and Voltmeter gauge.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/Random/103_0090.jpg

Next, you need to make some form of mixing desk thingy...

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/Random/103_0091.jpg
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/Random/103_0092.jpg

Then wire it all up, and plug it all in.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/Random/103_0093.jpg
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/Random/103_0094.jpg

And went an found my earphones (essential DJ equipment)

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/Random/103_0096.jpg

And got busy with it.....

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/th_6b748f7e.jpg (http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/?action=view&current=6b748f7e.flv)

All i need to do now is get a sunbed, wax my legs and hey presto, i too can be a top club spinner.

Whilst out in the workshop finishing some stuff off, i hit a little problem. The base plates for my strut brace should be arriving anytime soon (tomorrow or friday) however, part of the steel tube i used has a slight imperfection, so getting it chromed is out the qestion as this will show up blatently.

So, i shall either spray it, or powder coat it. It will be either breeze blue (to match the silicone hose's) or matt black (to match the inlet manifold) but which one?

Ideas please?

Said Brace;

My Engine;
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/engine%20convo/PICT0051.jpg

Bear in mind, the scuttle cover panel will soon be matt black aswell. Im just after some ideas from the masses please.

On a lighter note, ill explain what all this mincing is in aid off.
As you all know, next year is the 25th Anniversary of GM;s Nova. So i figured, in a testimont to what you can build from scratch, from the ground up, in the comfort of your own home/shed/garage, and in the biggest fcuk off style too all those low budget but overcharging garages, ill give it a blast myself. I may not have all the money in the world, or a super duper high BHP output engine, but my mission is to make my own style & not the norm. Just trick little touches so they say.

that valve thing is the coasting valve. it weakens the mixture when coasting. i think your problem is the supplementary air valve. what this does is adds extra air for cold starting to supplement the extra fuel supplied by the injectors.

Mike
23-07-07, 06:03 PM
Just gave the nova an hour or so, fitted one of Burgo's special AFM's, ran it upto temperature and had a little play with throttle adjusting screw and got it to idle like so...

(Video taken on phone. Note to self, get better phone)

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/th_e699fdae.jpg (http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/?action=view&current=e699fdae.flv)

So, now im thinking that the AFM i had of eBay was fcuked, that combined with the fact i personally reckon the timing is out, so me thinks once i get it all properly timed up, sort the blow on the manifold to system join, it should all work. Well thats the plan.

So its this little bastid thats been the cause of my fecking problems i think.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/AFMKN.jpg

And a big thank you to Mr Burgo for sorting me with an AFM that works lol

M.

Mike
24-07-07, 03:11 PM
Knocked work on the head at 11.30 and managed to get home for 12 today :D and being as its rather warm, i went out to play!

Fitted the carbon fuel acess cover i made, mounted the fuel pump upto the tank, and removed this funny little valve thing? Its mounted above the fuel rail, but below the injector harness (anyone know what its called) inside it looked a little dirty, so had a faff about with it, theres like a flap thing inside and it appeared to be seized? One jewel's screwdriver later, and it was un-seized.

Started the Nova, and hey presto, it started  and ran fine, albeit it the idle speed was around 1800rpm, had a play about again with the throttle adjuster screw, then the one on the AFM and got it down to 12/1400rpm Idle speed. It sounds like its got an ever so slight miss, so im thinking this would cause its high idle speed & reluctancy to get any lower lol

Anyone got any ideas? On the idle speed and that little valve thingy?

M.

Mike
30-07-07, 09:33 PM
Yes!! Its alive!! All timed up and damn it goes lol. Just been out driving erm, defensivly hahaha and came across a Golf GTi 5door thingy that wanted a play but he was a little slow :D

Ive noticed one thing tho, i think my driveshafts have had it, as now an again there making a real nasty click (more of a crunch!) mainly when i accerlerate hard, or turn in at speed? Any ideas anyone?

Anyway, attached my spank ?30 lourved bonnet, and now i think its save the pennies for a spray in an out as the bodywork is start to look like a 1991 car. Thank god theres no rot to worry about tho hahaha!
