View Full Version : The future of Novas?

Ok so here's a serious thought.

Novas will be getting increasingly thin on the ground.

What effect will this have on sites like this and the whole Nova modding scene?

(My dad has had a Lotus Cortina since 1965 - they're now re-making all the body panels etc and its as easy to get parts as it ever has been)

Higher quality of Novas as all the ****ters/rustbuckets will die and go to scrappy heaven. Also doubt just-passed drivers will want to sort out rust problems so most will be owned by enthusiasts.

Just when i thought they were getting thin on the ground, loads of low mileage minters have showed up.

Most people will probably move onto bigger and better things, but there will always be a few of us who will keep one or two as long as we can.

I think its going to be a few years yet before we see them getting really thin on the ground tho, you only have to look at all the main vaux websites to realise that the quality to which they are getting built now is far superior to back in the day.

Agreed ^ most of the sh1tters will die out, and the remainders will be maintained to a high standard by proper enthusiasts IMO

I remember going to various Vauxhall shows a few years ago and seeing only a handfull of nova's - I think the amount you see these days, shows they are here to stay for a long time

Agreed, these last 2 years has seen a big increase in the number turning out for the shows. Maybe these were all under rebuilt status in 2003/4/5!

There's still a huge number still under construction at the moment too, all due out in 2008, will your's be there dave?

as long as there is injustice, we will be there.
As long as there are innocents that need protecting, we will be there,
As long as there is an angle grinder, to cut out rust, we will be there.

All for one and one for all LOL:D :D

Novas are now cult. Everyone needs to face it, they have stood the test of time & are rally proven for durability & lets face it a Nova is arguably the most moddable car in the UK/europe???

Definately Novas will be looked back upon in the same way Golf GTI's & Minis are. Non Nova owners will love to hate them though purely for all the carpark, burnout & chav jokes you can drop in.

Personally I reckon things like solid doors & original unmarked interiors could start to fetch very good money in a few years to come. Good thread!

I agree,The Nova will have its day in the cult status it deserves, by the look of all your projects on here it wont be hard, they look better than the factory models did,but from the short time ive been on the site ,ive seen you are all very dedicated to keep the nova and this club alive, good on ya!!the only drawback is you make me wish i never got rid of mine,,,

Likewise. I think I might get a rented unit & start cataloguing & stock piling all my bits.

Could make a reasonable investment or even a business opportunity.

Correct. In 3 years i turned nearly ?5k+ ish by selling JUST Nova parts on eBay. And that just selling them in my spare time :thumb:

As CG said Good thread, I thought that nova's where slowly becoming rarer and growing into a cult status. When ever someone see another one on the road they tell me. I thought it was just because I'm getting drawn in to Nova groups and you do look out for them but it seems most people are starting to realise what there about. A standard GSi passed me the other day and I thought what a good looking, handsome car that is. They've definitely got character, unlike all these new Tonka toys and numpty buses

I think any clean or mint Nova is eye catching tbh. I always spot really mint panel gaps on the fr end then it will go past me & its a 5 door!

My Dad is usually telling me about Novas he's seen about. Last time it had a roll cage & white wheels he was saying.

I don't think the Nova will ever have the appeal or status of the Mk1 Golf, Mini's, or classic Fords - but thats the whole point of being cult:

Cult [kuhlt] ?noun
of, for, or attracting a small group of devotees: a cult movie.

Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing.

An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest.

i.e. a small, select band of followers, often together in the face of adversity. By definition, you could argue that the aforementioned classics aren't cult as everybody seems to like them.

Personally, I don't put Novas on a pedestal like some - there are cars I'd rather have and cars that are arguably "better". But meh, I had two, they were cheap and easier to own than the Celica, so I bought another. As said though, as the rough ones on the roads die out, the hardcore who really look after their cars and treat them right will be left, resulting in a very dedicated and specialist club.

Mine will be long gone by that time though lol

I bet there are far more people chatting about Novas (& related topics) on forums this afternoon than Golfs or Mini's.

The Nova is still too young to be looked back on like Golfs are. Oddly though, I reckon Novas will struggle to shake that young image, its such a youthfull looking car.

I agree with Keith, the looked after ones will survive a long time and I think (and hope) they will keep the good fan base like we have on here.

Don't agree with that, mate. There are many more quality Golf forums, 2 dedicated magazines, 12 dedicated shows in the UK and the continent.

I like Nova's best though....:thumb:

Submerge a MK1 golf in seawater and it will still rust less than a Nove lol

But if I wasnt confident they weren't going to be around much longer, I, or the others behind the club wouldnt have bothered doing it.

Were hoping to be around a long time, and thats only possible with a healthy supply of Krust, and a healthy supply of enthusiasts, which I think there is.

the nova is becoming a classic because all new small cars are big so people are going back to small fwd cars like the nova and corsa

Perhaps pngclub can arrange some form of discount for wholesale bulk buys with the manufacturer? :thumb:lol

Personally I love the Nova - easy to work on, 1st car I shagged in and the 1st car I bought with my own money (and I still have it).

I've actually started playing a new motorway game - spot the Nova - it's better than the eddie stobbart lorry game and its harder! It also means (if its going in the same direction) you can get behind them and start a mini convoy!

lol

I'll have mine for as long as I can (its got more welded plates on it than ruddy car!)

I'd also like a "standard" GTE or GSi to look after and preserve...

yeah the nova is a legend. and im not sayin my nova is mint because its not, its nice tough, and i have people lookin at it everywhere i go. it gets more looks than most of fresher modded cars. ive owned mine since i was 16 and unless i write it off i dont think id ever sell it. i wouldnt be able to put a price on it
