Whats this do??

Just got a re placement sump for my engine,2L 16v, as mine has loads of hair line cracks. This sump has a sensor in it, i guess an oil sensor, but the original has had it removed and the hole plated up.

Question is it an oil pressure sensor? if not what is it?? and do i need to use it??
engine runs spot on with out it...

you shouldnt have any major pressure in the sump ao i would doubt that it would have an oil pressure switch in it

Isn't that where the oil pressure sensor goes for the dash display?
I'm not 100% mind. Look in a haynes book.

Isn't the pressure sensor on the oil pump like the GTE and astras? Never seen a sensor in the sump itself???
