Having enough of the 1600 16v was a big step for me really, as I had always fought off the big block vs small block arguments, fighting the small block corner!:)

I did however decide that enough was enough with that stupid f*ck*ng 1600 that kep breaking, so I bought an early 2L16v....

Here is the spec... (almost finished)

Extensive porting and CNC headwork, with stainless, one piece, wasted valves. 33mm Inlet, 29mm Exh.
Bronze Valve guides.

Piper 296/300 cams
TurboSport adjustable pulleys
Cometic Head Gasket

Block.
Machined to 87mm with JE forged ?slipper? pistons.

Not going to pretend it has *** bhp/torque, cos I just dont know until I get it mapped, but it should go well!:)

I have some pics somewhere of it being built up, so I sould add it to the projects section really!lol

I'd say about 150bhp and 50lbft of torque.... purely because you are a welshie lol

:)
I really wouldnt be surprised if that was the case, judging by my current luck with engines.

i'm so close to that point too. I'm genuinely relieved if I make it to the end of a ten mile journey without engine failure!

Your new spec sounds

Hope it stays together for you....

Is it the same engine builder you use for all your motors?

lol at Oli I was exactly the same!

I was thinking about uprating a few bits on the 1600 for piece of mind, just as it left 30% of the bottom end on the M4. I was almost relieved when I realised I couoldnt fix it!lol

Craig, nah this is all new to me. I used someone in Swindon before that. I have also just found out that there is an ex-formula one engine builder about 500 yards from my house who has just started on his own.

I will ensure I make friends with him ASAP!;)

Wow, sounds top notch! So good I just dribbled on my keyboard!

I'm sure Toovey build alot of engines for hot rods and oval racing if im not mistaken.

Awesome spec mate, one I can only dream about! Keep us updated on it, I for one will be very interested in seeing power figures etc...

I am in the process of rebuilding my early XE at the moment, Its the first ever time I have ever attempted it and am just statying standard for now bar a mantzel power cap.

I will be happy if it runs! lol

Anyway, keep us posted

Ian

Thanks All, this particular spec is very similar to some of the hod-rod and oval specs actually. They usually run on carbs though. Will be interested to see what it can do when I map it...

As long as its around 200, I will be happy. The torque is what I want though! lol

It'll seem even funnier when your still lapping and I'm getting towed bk in by the recovery truck
Hang on I mean.... Of course I'll have already been able to put in a full days worth of lapping, whereas you'll be mastering your three point turns after understeering into the barriers at every corner ;) thats more like it :p
