are the small block mains and bigs all the same?
as in, would a 1600 crank fit a 1400 and conrods?

Mains and Big ends are different things.

Do you mean will a 1600 crank fit a 1400 block/conrods?

Crank and bearings will (all the journals are the same for small block Nova 8v engines) fit but you won't be able to use the 1600 crank and 1400 pistons as the stroke is too long.

thats ok, i wont be useing the 1600 crank and rods,
the situation is i bought a bottom end from a scrappy with the fella saying it was a 1400. no markings on it unfortunatly. i bought bearings for a c14se and they fitted, but the piston rings did not fit, turns out its a 1600.
so happy now that the bearings will fit ;)

Did the engine code not give it away?
