Who is/are your heros and why....

aside from Me that is lol.

Mine are
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isambard_Kingdom_Brunel (urgh wikkipedia lol)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Trevithick
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Watt

All for their services to the steam era and railways.. and generally making crazy shizzle that is still in existence today. Makes me very very proud to be british when thinking of what these guys got upto in their time with such "old" technology that was groundbreaking at the time.

There hasnt been anyone for the past 100years worthy of my worship imho.

I will definetly agree with you regarding Isambard Kingdom Brunel! Without a doubt, he has designed some of the most amazing structures/machines of his time!!

Im going with Richard Burns, without a doubt. I met him when i was younger, and he is such a down to earth guy with his head screwed on and one hell of a driver out on the loose stuff IMO. For those who dont know of him, here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tAonkT3iBk) he is. His dedication to his passion was immense, much the same to his family and friends and he would refuse to give up at anything regardless of the challenge.

And finally, my dad. If it wasnt for him i wouldnt be where i am today at all. He's bought me up how he was bought up back int 60's+, i dont get what i want, he will not buy me anything i want. He's tought me respect for others, and others belongings, and he has now accepted the fact that i am a little unorthadox in what i do (forever mincing with cars & that) and knows it my passion, much like his is steam trains and old engineering (i.e. Fred Dibnagh)

Frank Whittle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Whittle), father of the jet engine. Made the world a smaller place. :thumb:

Also, as a group, firefighters who were on call during 911, risking (and many losing) their lives in and around the fateful building.

possibly...
I wouldnt class someone as a hero if i didnt respect them though.
Then again there arent many people that I explicitly "respect", lots get tollerated in varing degrees though lol

I respect my dad an awful lot.
I'm not sure what I'd class as a hero, but I admire people for their skills.

Lots of people respect their Dad's, I can't, I've never met mine.
I suppose being of a physics backround many of them have my respect such as Einstein.

i think the firefighters who served 911 are hereos like many have said.
personally i really look at the people who gave there lives in world wars 1 and 2.

when i was in school i took history for a gcse and we went on a trip to france germany and belgium to see many of the fighting areas and the tretuous (sp) conditions poeple had to live in whilst risking there lives. it was really moving even at a young age to see what people do. espcially at the battle of the somme where people knew they would die when they had to go over the top but yet they stil did it. if it wasnt for heros like them only god knows what life would be like to day, we could be all blonde and blue eyes speaking german living in a world dictatorship.

I would say heros and respect can be the same and different.

For example one of my hero's is Nigel Mansell, to do what he did is absolutely insane. His dedication drive and determination are a constant inspiration to me. However I respect his wife for putting up with his crazy dream but she's not a hero of mine.

I would have said that a hero is someone you admire so much that you want to be like them. Or maybe that could be an idol.

Timbaland
One of my friends paid an extortionate amount to see him play a 2 hour set in a club - only for him to arrive, spend an hour tucked away in the VIP lounge, then leave!

I would have said that a hero is someone you admire so much that you want to be like them. Or maybe that could be an idol.
Thats an idol. A hero by definition someone who you consider does something heroic, goes above and beyond the call of duty - in my case, Frank never gave up on his plans for the jet engine despite the British military being typically blas? about the whole thing; and the firefighters, who need no further introduction

Mine would be Mordehai Milgrom - A Israeli physicist who back in the 80's proposed a new alternative to dark matter, called MOND (Modified Newtonian Dynamics). For those that dont know dark matter is matter for which that cant be seen in the universe thus planets ect... and for the galaxies we can see to be able to hold themselves together under their own gravity there had to be more matter in the galaxy than what can be seen -the stars which give out light. Thing is there needed to be so much dark matter in order to make this work they needed to make up a new idea dark energy (basically rough arsing it).

That is all assuming that gravity is a constant throughout the universe, which is what newton had already said. Now pretty much all scientists agreed with newton an would not go against his word as he was seen as a god. But one man found out that gravity is not constant and changes with the scale of the it is being looked at. Of course he was laughed at constantly for 20 odd years, he was seen as a joke to most scientists.

My mate at uni on his dissertation proved that dark matter didnt exist in much the same way that he did and we were in contact with him to help us with som of the things, an we even requested data from nasa in order to work it out ourselves but nasa would not give us untouched data which basically meant they were making the data say what they wanted.

After 20 years of being laughed at it now appears that people are starting to take up this idea.

I respect loads of people, but have no heros

Hero means someone who has done something, or is amazing, has acheivemnts that others simpley couldnt do. We are all different I like to beleive that one day i will do something amazing, do something to earn some respect people and myself and be my own hero!
