What is the top speed you could get out of a standard one now???

General Baxter
03-07-07, 11:51 PM
oh here we go

about 90mph true speed lol

Jenks
03-07-07, 11:52 PM
LOL!! wel if had 90mph out of mine and i think it could go a bit faster!

Erm well the previous owner on my 1.2 (CARB) said he got 110 out of mine with a digi clock.

Don't know if it's true

Jenks
03-07-07, 11:59 PM
do the carb ones have something like 10bhp more than the spi ones??

Jack
03-07-07, 11:59 PM
4,000mph easily. Anyone else who says otherwise is a LIAR

I don't know ... I am just going off what i have been told.

I've had 110 from mine down a private road but thats a carb model and on nova clocks. Realistically I think I've had it up to around 40mph on public roads :p.

Jack

Yes, btw. 45bhp for SPi, 55bhp for carb. On a factory fresh standard engine anyway.

Jenks

Mines quite quick around back roads especially as it?s got the 4 speed box good acceleration! Do all of the 1.2i's come with a 4 speed box?

Jack
04-07-07, 12:11 AM
5 speed was an option on pretty much all 1.2's afaik.

Jenks
04-07-07, 12:13 AM
cool! i was thinkin of puting an SRI head on mine, worth it?

Stuart
04-07-07, 08:09 AM
try posting in the right forums. and if you want sensible help, fire up a different thread about heads (or search)

as for "top" speed.... being an i its going to ahve a rev limiter find out that that is then bun all relevant into into my speed in gear link in my sig link and it will tell you what the vmax is.... but dont cry too much when it tells you a very low number.

Teggy
04-07-07, 08:52 AM
my 1.2 was 112 down hill wind behind me then i ran out of down hill lol also that was digi clocks

General Baxter
04-07-07, 08:56 AM
please remember 1.2i will only have about 30-40bhp at the fly now unless they have just been rebuilt or very well looked after, which is unlikly lol

04-07-07, 09:21 AM
Or just remember its a measely engine that is barely worth typing about.

Who cares how fast a 1.2 is? (unless you are 12 & bragging in the playground)

Quick compared ot what?? A snail????

They left the factory with 45BHP I shudder to think what mine has these days :tard:

Mine struggles to get to 90 but happily tootles about town and gives me 40MPG.

Remember 1.2I AND the word FAST go together like Jordan and Class.

Well the 1.0 engines beat the 1.2's in my experience!

Both corsa 1.0's and nova 1.0's used to pull from mine lol!

General Baxter
04-07-07, 11:07 AM
i fitted a F13Cr to my 1.2carb,

would read 10mph over so in theroy i did 100mph lol

Dar
04-07-07, 11:33 AM
Its simple. the bigger the engine the faster you go. By a fairly nice quirk of fate there is a very simple sum to work out how fast your car goes.

size of engine * 100 = mph

1.0*100=100mph
1.2*100=120mph

Also if you want to accelerate faster then just plant the throttle, wait 2 seconds and then quickly take your foot off of the clutch 'sideways'. The clutch will spring up and because of the very quick release it acts like a racing paddle clutch for a second or two. So you just launch off of the line and your gone.

Bye bye Skyline :D

1.8=180mph
2.0=200mph
3.0=300mph

Damn right but when you start hitting around 150mph areodynamics come in to play. Its true though, ask any professional engine tuner:cool:

Oh I also forgot that you need a well polished bellend or you will lose lots of BHP. If your car is not making the top speed that this equation says. then I suggest a good session polishing your bellend to gain the proper results.

FPMSL lol starting to tread the ground of total frontal mass, wind resistance, and sht1t like that now lol

total frontal mass... WTF lol area you chimp.

there is also a calculation for speed dictated by power in my sig link too ;)

I think my 1.2 will reach atleast 145mph if i take the side repeaters and aerial off the wings and replace them with carbon fibre style stickers for better wind flow................

Dar
04-07-07, 11:51 AM
FPMSL lol starting to tread the ground of total frontal mass, wind resistance, and sht1t like that now lol

Yeah, it starts making the equation a little more difficult when you have to start figuring in rolling resistance, coefficent of friction, wind speed and the T.C.F. factor in. But since the 1.2 on goes to 120mph we can ignore these.

Side repeaters will give you an extra 5mph:thumb: But good call on the carbon fibre wings!!

FPMSL! What the corsa does in 5th gear, the fecking Nova will do in 4th pretty easy, 1.2 power is proper pants, altho its mega cheap to run and saves me getting paint on my Sparco's :D

The reason these threads are pointless really. Hence why virtually no one gives a straight answerlol

Your bellend still needs a good polish though:thumb:

aerodynamics dont count with a nova - it has nearly no mass due to its extremely technical oxidisation system.

Theoretically a nova could travel interstella.

04-07-07, 02:08 PM
Reminds me of someone that seriously thought a 2lt nova could do 210mph in third gear. Make sure you fold down your rear seats next time you go for a top speed run to reduce drag.

1.2 Carb E reg saloon down huuuuge hill on a good day - 115-ish mph on Nova clocks. (shortly after pic was taken)

My nova speedo is over 15 mph out at top speed (137 on gps, 155 (approx) on speedo.
This is partly down to the 195/45/15s and the gearbox being set for 185/60/ 15s

mowgli
04-07-07, 08:34 PM
If I wanted to do a dodgy 'I can do 150 me' photo I would put the car on axle stands then run it .......

FOR GOD'S SAKE !!!!
A 1.2spi nova will struggle to do 85mph
a 1.2 carb nova will struggle to do 90mph

If you believe anything else, you are probably the sort of person who gets really happy when the Reader's Digest writes to you!

B 1.2 carb nova will struggle to do 90mph!

hahaha now as stupid as it sounds, that^ is pants, the most i ever got out my SPi corsa was 105 on the speedo and 97 on the sat nav lol pure power pmsl! lol

EDIT: And Baxter was with me at the time ;) lol lol

Ash

I don't want to stick up for them but my 1.2 (weber)carb with 4 branch and F13CR did 103mph on GPS, 114mph on the (digi) clocks. When compleatly standard it did 122mph on the clocks :tard:

Top speed is gay anyways.

All speeds quoted were on private test grounds.

Mike
04-07-07, 11:15 PM
I don't want to stick up for them.

thats the thing, without sounding a mong, but a 1.2 will do in the region of 100mph!

Jim Mcrae
04-07-07, 11:21 PM
i had 120 down a steep hill reading in a 1200, realisticly it was doing 105 i would imagine! Want to go any faster you will need a mighty high cliff im affraid, on the flat 90 to 95 tops.

Jack
05-07-07, 08:47 AM
I had 120ish - the speedo was wobbling like a biyatch lol - dial speed on my 1.2c 4spd (so yeah, probably about 100mph). And yes, that was downhill. Headgasket changed the next day pmsl lol

These days I can do considerably more than that, in considerably more comfort and without the car falling apart. Not that I do mind you, as I can't afford the fuel lol

Anyway, top speed threads are gay. Its how fast you get to 70 that counts :D

Stuart
05-07-07, 08:52 AM
jack, its how fast you get to 30 thats the important bit ;)

Now you're talking I hit that in first.........just

Which reminds me, now don't laugh but with the gearing what are the top speeds for first, second and third on the 4 speed box???

IIRC I've hit 30 in first, 50 in second and 65 in third. About right???

db_1.2
05-07-07, 09:32 AM
Ive had 3 spi's, 2 with 5 speed boxes, one done close to 110, id say about 104mph, and the other 1 with 4 speed boxes struggle to get to 90 let alone 110 also i had a 1.2 carb and it wasnt a great deal quicker although maybe it was slightly noticable, BUT it had a 4 branch and straight through plus it had only done 45000 genuine miles (fsh), shame i scrapped it though:(

Riggy
05-07-07, 04:07 PM
PMSL nova speedos are so crap its unreal , the amount of times that i hve seen the needle touching the wrong side of the stop , makes me laugh how anyone can think that the read correct that must mean ive done atleast 160 lol

I have a 1.2 Carb, 5 Speed, with steelies and a GTE interior....I saw this thread and though I would do a Top speed run on the way home from work...My nova rules!!

Dunno about 4 speed, but 5 speed i've had:

1st = 32mph
2nd = 65mph
3rd = can't remember
4th = ||
5th = wouldn't rev high enough.

that was on a digi dash and an F10
funnest thing was the dash would turn off after 7250ish rpm lol:roll:

*i was young and stupid
