just wondering how do you remove the clocks from a mk1 dash without removing the whole dash??

With the steering wheel off, tilt the bootom edge of the clocks out (towards you) then get a hand in behind & depress the metal clip that holds the end of the speedo cable onto the clocks, clear the cable & then remove the loom plug off the back of the clocks. Then yank em out.

Easier on a mk2.

I managed to remove mine without the steering wheel off, but then I do have a poverty mk1 with the big steering wheel.

yep me too as the steering wheels are a bitch to remove without the proper puller.
