I have a stock 1400cc (spi) bottom half with a 1300cc head bolted on, i need to know what's the recommended rev limit?????

what ever the stock ecu rev limit is set to. and you cannot change that (well not without a waste of money "superchip")

If hes using a carb head i guess he aint running spi.
Unless hes bodged some inlet on.

sorry to hi-jack, but i have got a 1400 spi bottom end, 1300 head and twin 40's with SR ignition set-up, will it have a rev limiter still or not?

also why do you have to change to a 1400 sr ignition set-up on a 1400 spi bottom end to run carbs? i have been told that the car will run even if i just bolt my 40's on.. Long Live The Nova game me lots of help about this but has anyone ever tried this without swapping ignition system?

i was told my ecu was split into 2 sections and would still work with the carbs even though it was originally a injection..

sorry for hi-jacking but saves me making a new thread.. thanks

no, the SR ignition setup has no rev limit, itll just bounce a valve instead

the SR ignition setup has a vacum advance installed, what you need to run carbs. its the simplest and easiest way IMO

Let me state further, its running twin weber 40s no limiter. i want to add a rev limiter, thus i need to know what rpm to set it to..

get an aftermarket limiter then, and set it to around 6800rpm. Limiters are readily available of the internet via mail order.

The spi dizzy will run the engine, but it will stay at the static advance amount all through the rev range instead of advancing :thumb:
SR dizzy has a mechanical weight advance that advances the timing as the shaft speed increases.

ive never let my engine get anywere near the stage were it hits the rev limiter, dont want to push it!!!

Lol, just do it! It wont break

thats why you set the limiter to a "safe" vlue so if you hit it you wont do damage...

imho a safe number with arp rod bolts is 7250 (but if your power/torque has dropped off way before that then its pointless revving more)

If you want to know a limit for performance rather than safety, get the car rolling roaded then set a shift light where the cars peak power and torque will be used best compared to the gearing amd set the limit 500 or so above that.

If your running standard bolts and the bottom end hasnt been uprated/rebuilt then sumwhere around 6500 would be safe. If its been rebuilt and you have ARP bolts then add another 1000 to that.

I thought rockers were more common problem to break in the engine before valves?

swings and roundabouts..... rockers can happily live at 8K tbh

Wherever peak power is.
