Yes,

This is a serious problem - and if its as bad as you say it is - MOT Failure.

Ste is right, either:

A) Borrow a grinder + welder, grind out all the rot, seal it with appropriate stuff, get a plate of similar grade metal and weld over (taking care to seal up weld, it rusts fast!)

B) Goto garage, give em ?40 quid to do it for you.

C) Goto garage in a paranoid frame of mind, cough up ?300 quid like I did today to get em to do a 'good' job. (If there is such a thing - I think they take that as use as much mastic and waxoil over the joins as possible)

ok thanx guys - i think i'll wait until it gets resprayed, then they may do it cheaper......!!!!

when u say cut it all out.....wot about if sum of it is under the divider thing( the wall thing, which seperates the engine and battery compartment, if ya know wot i mean?)
is this quite a common problem? also, where else do novas tend to rust? (apart from around the arches)e.g underneath? floor? etc...
thanx anyway...

other places of rot ta look for are; boot floor both sides over the legs, around the spring cups underneath on the back, lower front panel, door pockets, could find other bits here and there but those are the worst ;)

Another option is to purchase the strengening kit from hockleys and have it repaired using the turrets from that.. far stronger than standard.... Might even sell you the turrets only if you ask
