as kids, im sure most on here had a BMX. So, what did you have?

Mine was a US import GT Powerlite Pro series, alloy frame thingy! Complete with spokey dokies, those Kellogs chicken shaped reflective things and a solid plastic Ruption seat.

Then, feeling rich as an apprentice paperboy, i upgraded to MAG 3 spoke wheels, Maxxis Ringworm tyres (instead of those gash Odessey Red walls of the 90's) some liary shin busting red Odessey alloy pedals, SNAFU 3 piece crank set and other bits, 4 stunt pegs (that were used for grinding poles/rails not backies) and some street handle bars (instead of ****ty dirt jumpnig stylee ones).

Thinking i was He-Man at my local (now defunct) skatepark, i bit of more then could chew! A qaurter pipe with 8ft of vert :tard: of which i launched off, hit the ceiling, bailed and then proceeded to face plant onto a concerete floor that was around 18ft below.

Result: 1 Day hospital, 4 less teeth and concusion lol

What did you have?

Enlighten me.....

Mine was a cheap 1.

I ended up spraying it up in black.
Banged some Max Daddy chunky tyres on it with chrome lip rims lol.
It also had some gay pegs that i allways caught my ankles on if trying something out.
Added a Black and grey army seat and Some blinging dust caps an away i went... lol
When vice city came out i got the idea of riding my bike and jumping off the back of it well it was moving - like the guy does on the motorbike - it ended in a cracked head with alot of blood.
About 1 - 2 year ago my mom gave it away to the next doors kid :( just because i had a moped.

no idea what mine was. it was black and red with a hard plastic seat lol.

I dont understand how BMX stuff now costs so much when lined up with XC/DH MTB's lol. afterall there are no multigear cassettes, derailers etc

stuff costs so much now because all the parts are made really light and strong, most of the axles are made from titanium, and then hollowed out for extra weight saving! a modern fully built bmx could weigh the same as a regualar bmx's frame alone!!

Stuart
27-06-07, 11:31 PM
fully aware of that, but its just a tad odd how a very basic bmx can cost the same as a very well specced MTB (like ?600 + mtbs lol)

a few of my mates are into bikes. mostly mountain bikes but they have a bmx as well.

one has got a mountain bike worth 2/3 grand

one question..........WHY (u friggin loon)

you could buy a decent car with that and never have to pedal ever again!

as for my old bmx........its hard to remeber but it was black (arent they all?)

had a big smilie face on acid covering the back wheel.

spokey dokeys on the front, with the kellogs chickens

and i jammed a beer can over the rear wheel so it sounded like a motorbikelol

I had one like this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/raleigh-burner-bmx_W0QQitemZ320130946262QQihZ011QQcategoryZ35960Q QcmdZViewItem). But I had different more flexi wheels on it. It was great fun seeing how far I could make the wheels bend.

I had a Raleigh BMX, looks very simular to the buner, but was a cream frame, black wheels and saddle and some red bits including tyres - it was a long time ago. Really want it back now, never knew what it was tho.

I had two, one flatland and one street. I never really ride anymore tho :(

My flatland BMX (which I still have) Is built around a KHE premium lagger frame, mad maxx rims, radial laced with a G-Sport front hub and DNA freecoaster rear, DNA zero rake forks, Tech 99 brake lever, braided steel brake line, U-brake, Pig headset (i think), DNA stem, Odyssey milk bars (i think altho IIRC they are 4-piece), G-sport bar ends, Odyssey black widow alloy cranks, KHE pedals, 4 odyssey strong island pegs.

My street bike was built around an standard STA 500 frame, but built using mainly haro parts including the haro 3-piece cranks with left-hand drive etc. I was a bit of a pussy when it came to street riding tbh!

All funded by multiple paper rounds and then some sat work at Londis!

same here! Just to get me out on "the streets" again lol riding freestyle like, used to love doing that.

My best one was a Falcon Pro, freestyle. That wouldve been back in maybe 88. It was Pearl white with purple mags & matching pads etc. You could also get it in white with green mags. Built in pegs fr & rear. It was the doggs unless you had a Mongoose or summat.

I was about 9. (strewth almost 20 yrs ago)

I also took a Gary Fisher racing BMX under my wing a few years ago when I was at the bike shop. It was used as a demo-hack & I used to ride it everywhere. Alloy framed, pretty long wheelbase ideal for lanky gets like me. It was so quick off the lights! (sounds like an RS turbo!) lol

I dont understand how BMX stuff now costs so much when lined up with XC/DH MTB's lol. afterall there are no multigear cassettes, derailers etc

plus BMX's are purely built for strength, so cheap gas pipe passes as a an acceptable material to build frames from!

I had a mongoose for a while, but due to my height, and the distance I had to ride to school, I didnt have it long. It had a gyro though, which was ace when you fell off it as you never got the brake cables tangled up LOLOL

Got a mountain bike soon after, ended up with a Diamondback Topanga hard tail with a serious amount of kit on it (hope hubs being my favourite addition, not sure if theyre still about or not). It was promptly stolen from college by a pikey bast@rd.

never had a bmx - had a boxer when I was v small then graduated to a chopper (uber cool!) with flag then a grifter!

Couple a mates had bmx's - always remember them shoving thier wheels in the deep freezer in a vain attempt to unbuckle them.

lol

They were also the kids who's knackers got a trashing on the handle bars the most, had more plaster casts than the rest and were oddly the ones who would lie at the end of the line of "suicides" who lay on the pavement as the "big kids" tried to jump them on their own bmx's over 2 bricks and a plank of ply! And usually failed - by a couple of kids lengths

pmsl!
