View Full Version : Dick Mayo Castle Combe Sprint
I got my entry for the Dick Mayo sprint :D
Its on the 30th June at Castle Combe. I just hope it stops bloody raining!!
As for the cars im up against:-
Triumph TR5 2700
Vauxhall Astra 1998
Ford Escort RS2000 2000t
Volvo PV544 1986
Volvo 850 T5 Estate 2300t
Triumph TR5 2700
Vauxhall Astra 1998
A I haven't sprinted against the TR5 before so I don't know what it goes like. However I have sprinted against the Astra and its uber fast!! It was doing mid 69's last year. Its odd not to see Paul Perkin in his 205 or Ken Dollen in his Datson 240Z but ho hum.
My best time from last year was a 71:37 with a 64ft time of 2.46
The car weighs a little less than last year and I now have the quaife box which will help loads. Also I have sorted out my lines in to a a few bends, so im hoping to go faster.
I will let you know the results and I will post up the video of my best time.
Best run from 2006 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhWTz0wcmok)
nice one dar , should be a good day out for the little beast :thumb:
I hope so! I will be happy if I beat last years time. Which I hope will be easy. However looking at my vid again and remembering that I decided to do a Banzai run. It 'may' not be too easy. Let's hope the Quaife box works its magic:thumb:
You go Dar good luck. Also can people come and watch ?
Yup anyone can just drive in and watch, its also completly FREE. Loads of nice cars there. Dave and Chris where there last year. They poped in to Merlin for something and then seen my carlol
looking at some of your new vids with quaife box and less wieght, looks to be a tad quicker than last year vid..especially coming out of the bends..
good luck tho dar...
post vid up when done tho ay..:thumb:

Ooh FREE to get in. Bonus!
Good luck Dar! If I go I'll be quietly cheering you on & any other Novas for that matter.
Whats the aim behind the sprint? Part of a series or just more laps (& fewer track virgins) than a track day?
Thanks Chris, I am relying on you for my wet setup:thumb:
Craig, the aim is to keep doing sprints until the car is fast enough to actually get me in to the top few. Then I will enter the sprint championship(Not sure what its called). As it stands the car is not fast enough, but it will be:D
Gazz - I will post up the vids even if they arn't faster.
and thankyou all for wishing me good luck:thumb:

Will quite likely come & watch Dar. Best bit of the action days is you & BT flat out....
Cool! Will see you there :D
Now that was a day of driving like my gran! I ran on the R888's all day to see what they where like in the wet, scary stuff!! Lots of cars came off of the track and lots of cars had very near misses. However since I have done almost zero wet weather running in the car 'ever' I decided to go the sensible option and drive safe. I still managed 3rd in class behind a very quick double driven Astra.
As you can imagine the video footage is slowwwwww, but I thought I would upload one of the vids that shows how slippy it was i.e. breaking traction on the rear of the car in the second circane. Anyway a save to not spin or crash. The car would have gone faster but i'm sure that if I tryed I would have binned it.

Here are a few piccys of some of the spinners taken by Kilvy from the Castle Combe forum.

PUG 205 looks cool, oversteering.
Scooby got it very wrong!
Holding back & playing it safe obviously paid off for you Dar. 3rd overall is pretty good first time out in the wet. Do you think softer suspension settings would give you a greater margin for error in the wet?

Yup, I don't think I would have caught the Astra even if I had put the softer springs in.
Well done Dar, should be a top day out chap! Love those pictures aswell

its ok just read the back of it...lol
Don't know what it was powered by. The entry lists it as a Ford Anglia 105E 2999cc So not the standard engine then:D lol Apparently it looked a handful in the wet. Cool car :wisewood:
some good pics there aswel...
looks like afew struggled in that weather...
Video of the Subaru crashing (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kL-Yfyd64Ck)
