Hi all,
I have a JL Audio 12W6 sub which has dual voice coils .
Not ever used a dual voice coil sub before and was wondering if I could wire up each coil to a separate channel on my amp and use the amp in mono mode so each coil is fed exactly the same signal?
Any comments or suggestions appreciated!

Judging by the manual, there's one set of +/- input terminals, then a pair of coil connection terminals so i'm not sure its physically possible to wire in more than one channel to it. The coil terminals are for joining the two coils together, either in series or parallel which defines the resistance (8Ohms when in series, 2Ohms when in parallel on the W6v2D4)

From the connections I was thinking of using a channel per voice coil as each can be wired independantly - as shown :-

Would this be OK or am I heading for trouble???

Hmm, I must have been looking at the wrong manual lol
Thats how my JL W3v2 is, with two connections either side. If both channels on the amp are outputting the same signal I can't see it being a problem, so long as the amp can cater for the resistance, although I've never seen it done...

hum my 12" JL is the same so I just loop it over with joined wire from the ampped teminals or from tow different amps as per above!
Nice!

Off topic & I apologise Joff, but how much resin and fibreglass matt did you use to make the sub enclosure in the wheel well?
On topic, I did that with a directed 12" sub I had & after a few weeks, my amp was no more! So wired it up using a mono amp & looped it over to the second coil.
Hope that helps.

I used about 10 layers of chopped fibreglass matting. I did 2 layers and used copious amounts of resin, then did it again with another 2 layers etc. Final product gives about 8-10mm thickness which gives a great sub box.
I can honestly say now I have the sub wired up that this 12" JL is better than two 10" phoenix gold subs I had in a largeish MDF enclosure.
Hope this helps
