its sucking air on the manifold joint just below the carb. its needs to be a good seal or it WILL NOT idle!!

fuel pipes how are they connected???

if u used a t - piece for the return u may not be filling the carb bowl up

try closing the return pipe up while cranking over to make sure u got enuf fuel in...

or u could be flooding it...

its been runnning fine all day except for these two problems as for the seal dicko its well sealed up it does idle ok only happened twice, i had booted it just before each cut out i aint used the return rgv stu could not see anyway to connect it so left it off.i have been told tonight it might be the float setting or something like that so whats the setting and how do i set it?????? is this what u mean rgv stu by "flooding it"....

is it worth the grief i wonder

yup

the weber instructions tell u to cut the inlet pipe 50mm after the puel pump and fit a t -piece so it looks like the fuel goes through it straight and the spur is the return (get me?)

the needle valve in the carb is connected by the float if u have too much fuel pressure then the valve wont work properly and too much will be fed into the carb causing it to flood.

the excess pressure from the pump will now be t-ed off into the return pie while still fillin the carb

so it looks like

pump----->>>>>>---------------->>>> carb
|
|
return---<<<<--------|

do i make sence??

It might be that the carb is on the way out.

When I first fitted my Webber it would run fine, then suddenly not run, then run, then not, then rev to high revs....basically the same as you described above.

All I did was get a re-con kit (?28) and gave it all a good clean out at the same time, and it was perfect from then on.

At idle, does it rev ok?

I'm asking 'cos in my case, it refused to rev over 2500rpm.....any higher, and it would start to cough and splutter then die, unless I lifted off the gas.

finally sorted thanks for the help guys the tip about the return pipe was the trick (cheers stu) it will idle perfect now and the throttle is very responsive total cost is 15 quid for the carb

total headaches loads ;)
