better nova gte or gsi? looking at getting a standard gotta be nice ,one or other if i can find...

what do you think? looking around a F to a J plate more than likely i keep getting drawn toward H/F reg GTE`s

all opinions welcome

oh i once saw a mint L reg nova is that possible? it never looked personal ether

I think GTE's are nicer, probably because i have one ! lol

But i do still think they look cool though and if i had to choose would probably be a GTE, just something about them !

depents on personal preferance, the gte and gsi is basikly the same car with slightly different body work and interior parts, i personaly prefer the look of the mk2 movas such as the gsi.

l plates are possible they were the last few that were sold off after production had stopped

I'd go GSi, but overall condition of the car would be more important - I'd rather buy a clean GTE over a rotten GSi.

....of course if I got a GTE, the dash would be coming out and being thrown off a cliff straight away :thumb:

gte look very nice but gsi are nice aswell but i prefer gte

as above...condition is more important.

you can make a gte look like a gsi if you prefer gsi's and vice versa.

id think it more likely that you'll find a clean gsi.there seems to be very few nice gte's around nowadays.

and you probably did see an 'L reg'

theres a couple knocking round and people who have them tend to look after them, knowing how rare they are

i'd say gsi every time for the updated looks mainly, but there does seem to be more 'mint' gtes available for sale.

Same car apart from the cosmetics. GTE had option of alloy wheels over the steels with trims as std. The early GTE's also had E/W as an optional extra but it was all std on the GSi.

As it says above, its far more important to find a solid car rather than choose a GSi over a GTE for reasons of headlamp shape or being newer.

In hindsight I prefer the GTE (minus its mk1 dashboard). Mk1 Novas are a rare sight these days & I for one would like to see more of them around.

Sam-SR is selling a clean looking Black GTE currently (I saw on MIG) for ?1000. It appears pretty rust free in the usual places (boot floor etc) going by the pics.

i have owned both GTE and GSI - i love the GTE for the looks you get and for a 17 year old car there mint but the gsi to me looks alot better it feels like a proper dash in and interiour is better - but to me they both ride the same and go the same but thats my opinion - hard choice mate but i wud say GSI for overall :)

indeed. If it wasnt for my brand new genuine mk2 wings, lights & fr GSi bumper, I'd actually change my styling to mk1 gear. :thumb:

I was thinking of doing that(theres too many white mk2's out there), but it would just look odd on a k-plate with mk1 styling.

craig green
25-06-07, 04:03 PM
No it wouldnt...... What relevance does the first digit in a reg plate have to whether or not the styling suits the car. I would agree its a bit spinny to anyone that knows a Nova inside out but no one thinks a B reg looks odd in full mk2 GSi guise with a Mondeo estate rear spoiler drooping off the back.....

If I keep my TD its going full mk1 GTE rep. Grp-A diesel track car anyone? LOL

GTE outside. GSI inside.

for me anyway!

The mk1 SR tailgate is possibly the best external feature of the Nova IMO.

The grey vinyl with 1.4 SR cutout revealing the writing is bodycolour. Mmmm

Lets here it for the mk1's!

Why is the MK1 dashboard hated so much, personally i think it suits the MK1 exterior better than MK2 dash in it, which alot of peep seem to do.

Plus like the MK1/2 golf's the sterio location in the MK1 dash looks alot better, (i.e. higher up) where as the MK2 its at the bottom like the pug 205's and mk2/3 escorts.

Plus side on MK2 dash, the knobs and swiches heater vents etc look more modern, but far from saying it looks better than a MK1 dash.

NOT HATING JUST THOUGHT DEFEND THE MK1 DASH FOR A CHANGE

Adam
26-06-07, 08:12 PM
Fasted? Hmm?
Compared to what?

turbojolt
26-06-07, 08:29 PM
fast compared to the gsi o-60mph

ade
26-06-07, 08:33 PM
GTE - 98bhp @5600 0-60 9.1 secs top 117mph
GSi - 98bhp @5800 0-60 9.0 secs top 118mph

according to TV. not that we're splitting hairs or owt...

I like GTE for its boxy looks but GSi for it more "modern" soft aproach...

never seen a silk violet GTE though...

mmm

1.6 gte 0-60 8.1 seconds 115 mph
1.6 gsi(cat) 0-60 9.1 114 mph
from the maxpower haynes modd'ing guide Tbh, i'd call those times bollox lol
Theres no way a gsi is a second slower than a gte to 60mph.

I bought the max power nova manual, before i actually owned a car. Thought it was quite cool at the time, and was planning on it coming useful when i got round to fitting my type K kit.
