what is involved in fitting 17" wheels on to a nova ? its a track car so im not bothered about having to do major reconstruction . gonna be running slicks with a quite tall profile so just wanna know if it is possible

it is possible to get 17s on there but if its a track car i would of thought handling was more important than looks and for this 15s will be miles better. if you do wanna go for 17s youl need wheels with a 45-49 offset, will either have to trim the arch lip back or get them roled.

If its a track nova, does bear the question why - i'd have thought there would be a just as good and probably considerably cheaper selection of 15" track tyres

I'm guessing the car is lowered a bit as well? You'll probably have to chop a fair bit out the inner arch, and rebuild them larger, especially if you have a tall profile on the tyre. No doubt have to flare the outer arches to get over them as well.

Sounds like the wrong way to go about prepping a track Nova tbh.

17"s will cause the seering to be very vague, arch clearance issues & tyres will be expensive to source. I guess you have some in mind but but that seem to me like 'buying the house to fit the key'.

Everyone on here with any experience will point you at 14" or 15" rims.

17s will rub like fook under hard track cornering etc.
Even with modded arches.

And i wouldn't want to keep facing the cost of buying 17" tyres every few track days.....

seems i can get 17" slicks easier than 15" ones and i wanted to fit massive brakes as well hence why i was gonna go for 17"s

ive got cav gsi brakes and they fit well under my 15" tsw's! 17's will make the handling poo, 15's will giva you more clearance when doing hard turns etc

False economy tbh. Tall profile 17" slicks from a touring car or similar will barely turn in the arches IMO. A 15" Cavalier wheel & tyre scrubs on std height. Lowered, you havent a chance.

Going off on a tangent why do most motorsport cars have the biggest wheels they can get??

IS it just because they all have thousands and millions spent on suspension etc or something else??

To be fair tho, a nova is no motorsport touring car lol

256 brakes will fit under 15s, give a good pedal, and are fine for track use.

lol obviosuly hence the slight going off at a tangent.

I tryed slicks on some 16" rims(I got them cheap so thought why not have a go). I would go with 15" wheels. Heres piccys of my car on the HUGE slicks on. To be fair the handling wasn't as dire as I thought, but it didn't feel right at all. I was at a sprint so could compare the times directly with the 15" wheels running R888's and there was a huge difference. They also managed to rub in a few unlikley places as well.
