as alot of you will probably know, i am building a 1400 nova for track/autotesting. i want to try and get a fair bit of power out it and loads of acceleration. i want it really quick off the line but not that great a top speed.

i have got the folowing already-
1400 block, 1300 head, 4 branch manifold and powerlfow back box, Weber twin 40's, 4 speed box and i am saving for a kent/piper cam and alloy vernier pulley..

is there any easy/cheap mods i can do to get more power/acceleration?
any diy mods etc?

a 4.18 FD, or a 4.29 or a 4.53.... will giv eyou stack loads mroe acceleration.

as would fitting smaller wheels.

Strip out as much weight as possible. See these threads for examples of weight removal:

Focus on removing what you don't need, but remember that bringing weight further forward will aid traction for autotesting, for example removing the fuel tank, and making one to fit on the drivers side front inner wing.

i run 13 wheels anyway.. how much would a second hand final drive be? and whats the best for getting off the line as quick as possible?

i will remove things i dont need..

Seriously though, the FD & weight saving will be the key. fitting engine mods to gain top end HP will not help a great deal IMO, you want some low end grunt to get you off the line.

the reason i am putting 40's and a cam on is so i can go in the modified class.

i will try and find a new FD and get the grinder out.

That might help you find a 4.18 final drive in the scrapyard. (bottom table)

Also a weber 32/34 would be cheaper and not hurt the low rpms as much (yes I know Dan's engine is fine but for everyone else blah blah :))
