mum said i can stay on her insurance till im 21 if i want or i can pay more and go on my own so thought might aswell stay on hers even though im not getting no claims bonus but price should drop when i hit 21 anyway.

thing is i want to insure an engine converted nova whilst on my mums name. shes ok with it so will any companies insure me,

and who does engine conversion insurance

I'd go on your own policy tbh tho, because most companies have a term that the car has to be owned by the policy holder etc.

I was/am getting reasonable car insurance quotes at 19/20, I'd recommend going on your own policy too. HIC's website is very good for entering engine conversion details so give it a go.
