View Full Version : Badging up your car

I've always wondered why people stick 1.2 or lower cc badges on their cars when running bigger engines :tard:

What do you hope to prove by doing this?

I'm not having a go, I just don't get it

because when you are on the lights and you get your chaves in there saxos and thay think all you have got is a set of rims and a back box on a 1.2 nova then you pull its quite funny to watch there faces

banny
11-06-07, 10:09 AM
well thats why i did it

Jim

But if they pull up next to you again, or ask what you've got in it, and you say "it's a [insert bigger engine size here]" surely any embarrasement they will have suffered will quickly go once they realise they've been quite rightly beaten?

Also, those of you that went to PV probably saw more 2.0 Novas than 1.2/1.4/1.6 8v Novas, and with the internet being accesible to the whole world, do you not think it's common knowledge to other non-vaux owners that you're probably not running a 1.2.

I'm obviously old and thinking too much about it, lol.

if youve got a small engine and have uber power form it then yeah badge up as that engine... eg CP's with his 1.4 badge still there etc. but if youve got a 2.0 in there just remove all badges lol

When i put the turbo lump in my nova sr im going to be keeping the grey mk1 vynal that says 1.3 sr on the back, mainly cos the graphic is cool.

Yeah, the vinyl on the SR, GTE and GSi is cool... I don't think it should be removed just because you are putting a bigger engine in. The tacky little 1.2 plastic badges should always be removed IMO... Just because they look so ****!

When i'm done and fine out what power it makes, I'm having that printed on the side.

could be 2.0 16v or a highly stressed 1.6 8v with that.

Yeah, that looks cool :) I like it because it is a bit different, and also quite subtle.
I took the plastic badges off my tailgate, not becasue I'm bothered ablut people knowing it is a 1.4, just that the badges were so tacky. If they had been nicer looking then they would have stayed.

oh and on the back i replaced the old vauxhall ones with the new chrome style ones, but sprayed black, no engine size tho.

I like the std badging on Nova GTE & GSi's tbh.

Other than the 2 Griffin badges (fr & back) It doesnt actually say Vauxhall or Nova anywhere on the car. Just GSi in 4 places.

My neighbours thought I'd bought some oddball Daihatsu thing or summat.

Anyone who does that deserves everything they get. I really hope there is no one on this site that has kept their lower cc badges on because they haven't told the insurance company

I think it needs to be done if your building a proper sleeper, but leaving them on just to annoy people in saxo's is a bit sad IMO lol

I was thinking about badging mine as a 1.2
Just for the comedy factor. I had a 850 badge on my 1275 mini. But that was because I forgot to take to bugger off when I did the engine conversion.

Dave.

LOL, theres a VXR badge fetish at the moment. I saw loads of MK4 astra VXR's and series 1 veccies at PV.

Why bother!

yeh i agree with the above

its usually the chavs that buy the badges from halfrauds and think its ''cool''

I dislike the Ghey 16v badges, the VW style GTi on bait old Escorts and the M or M power badges on 316 poverty spec E36s.

I like the surprise factor of lesser badges on quicker cars though!

Oh god yeah, M3 badges are the worst! I saw a 325i with an M badge t'other morning, but he'd left the 325i badge on it. Ghey X 2!

jim, i've chosen to keep mine, in keeping with the rest of the car. it would be criminal to remove them! And just wouldn't look right unless i could get a 2.0 in the same style as the gl etc.

And yes you are thinking about it too much!lol

John
11-06-07, 09:31 PM
^^ its an xe btw.

Lynsey

It doesn't really matter - if you haven't got skinny tyres on and you go like hell everyone's gonna think there is an XE in it and they will always hate you no matter what you stick on the back just cos its a nova. Jims right tho lets face it there must be nearly as many modded novas on the road as there are completely standard oneslol so no-one can be suprised when yet again they get rinsed by by some impersonation of a 1.2 - there is no such thing as a Nova sleeper anymore.

Jim's only saying this to prepare us all for when he takes the plunge and sticks the tasty faded Merit badge I have on his boot. Go on Jim you know you want to:D

i agree with the above cp :) but i do still love the face of the other driver even at pod :) as long as i keep smileing , i will all ways love my nova :)

really like the graphics on the side of that - was thinking similar for mine when completed - sort of ford ST style.

TBH I cant recall the last time I actually say a badged nova!

pointless removing gsi/gte badges - theyre undefined in trms of engine size and as said most dont have the original engine under the bonnet anyway...

Saloony
11-06-07, 11:48 PM
I dont agree with it and i dont disagree with it, do what the bloody hell you want with it. Its totally different kettle of fish with gte/gsi as they dont state size on the back so you can easily get away with it.

Well no matter which way you look at it you cant win. Badge it up as a 2.0l or whatever, makes it appealing to light fingered scum or just chavs or every coont on the road who wants to try it on, badge it as a lower spec, same again, but this time they think you road kill and again want to race ya. Dont badge gives you a bit of a grey area, if the car looks half decent they want to know what it is. Cant win. Have a right ****ter that goes quick, you get laughed at when cruising.

But if you just want to get laughed at, buy a nova saloon.

rdanny

funny ether way i think

but so much fun when its a car that looks like shi1 but goes like a rocket

anyone else hate knobhead saxo and renault drivers lately?

Even the cossvaux Nova Turbo Van (300+ bhp) says 1.2 on the back lol

dave.gsi
12-06-07, 10:55 PM
gotta agree its sooooo much worse when people put badges on their cars like vxr on an r reg vectra. ive even seen vtec and type r badges on fords

and dare i say it.......888 badges on a nova (waits for abuse!)

as for the lower engine size, i personally quite like it. id do it not for racing chavs, but for when you get asshole bmw drivers in the fast lane of the motorway right up your a.rse. hold them up for a while in your 1.2 (!) then blow them away.

execs in their posh cars havnt got a clue, they tend to think anyone in a hatch with big wheels is a tithead chav so itd be nice to teach them a lesson:D

Mike
12-06-07, 11:12 PM
Mines just say's "Merit"

So totally undetermined engine size tbh. Its just the uber whide rims and bright blue buckets give it away lol but when people ask what engines in it, i still tell them its a 1200cc lol get some reet looks off people who've just tried it on hahahaa
