The Monty is also great but in a different 'go anywhere' kind of way. Not had it long though.

LMFAO yes, considerably more. Bear in mind I'm building an XE saloon as a CHEAPER car to run about in. Does that give you an implication of how much they cost? lol

Thats one thing I didn't really take heed of when I bought one. Its a fantastic car if looked after and great to drive, and prices at the moment are great for them - but you have to spend a lot of money keeping it maintained. What you save in purchasing, you pay for in insurance and maintenance, oh and fuel lol

Mine only has 3 gears at the moment, and for the cost of repairs I could afford to buy, insure, tax, MOT and run an XE Nova.

Just as expensive lol Escort or Sierra?

TG had a road test (back in the days when it was a serious motoring program) and Clarkson picked the Escrote cosworth over the ST205 - but only because he couldn't fit into the Celica, plus it was a few ?k more to buy at the time, as new. The Celica IMO is a better car (awaits flaming by the fr0d fanatics) - it was faster and handled better, its nicer to look at, and is now considerably cheaper to buy than a Cosworth. Plus, if you're tall like Clarkson, just get the one without the sunroof... If you can afford either, get the Celica.

lmfao, thats the exact reason why you pay massive fee for a Cosworth, and Celicas are cheaper. The Cosworth badge has a lot more "status" about it than a GT-4 badge.

On paper the Celica IS in the same league. Both are homolgation cars, and stats-wise they're near enough the same:

1992 Escrote Cosworth:
1993cc
227bhp
224lbft torque
0-60 in 6.2 seconds
Top Speed 137mph
Insurance group 20U

1994 Celica ST205:
1998cc
239bhp (on UK fuel, 255 on jap stuff)
224lbft torque
0-60 in 6.3 seconds
Top Speed 152mph
Insurance group 17A

As for how they compare on the road I wouldn't know as I've never driven a Cosworth, but I can definitely vouch for the Celica's ability.

Ash, yeah thats the one lol

ive driven both, well an ST185 GT4 and Es'cos. Tbh the Es'cos WILL corner at a much higher speed then a GT4, but i think thats ue to its 28mm ARB's

If I had the money for either, id settle for the Toyota. The reason, there cheaper to repair then a Cosworth and A LOT easier to get parts for. Cossies of any shape require quite a bit of TLC to keep mint, and if there not mint then they loose money quicker then a casino with the Oceans 11 guys in there!

Anyway, my daily driver. Presenting..... The 52bhp Turdbo :thumb:

I've seen more cosworths about than I have GT4s (yes, genuine ones!) :p Plus tuning potential? There's a mahoosive range of parts available from Japland. You're also saying its better because kids like it? Ace lol

Mike, the 185 is crap compared to the 205 - heavier, less powerful, and doesn't have the SSS.

Anywoo, I prefer Celicas to be considered the underdog, makes it more satisfying owning one lol

really?

i havent seen an escort cosworth out on the road for at least 5 years. theres a gt4 down the road from me.

point is cosworths tend not to be driven anymore because there so rare/valuable/desirable.

and as said there allready in the history books what with years of successful rallying under there belt, tbh id never even heard off the st205 (sounds like a mondeo lol) untill you started waffling about it. i thought it was just you get celicas and you get the gt4 versions. go to any rally nowadays and i can garuntee there will be a number of es cosworths there,i think you'll be lucky to find a couple of celica st205's...
