After getting back from pvs and lifting the bonnet, the wiring across the front panel had nearly melted due to the heat from the manifold, so it's time to wrap it up,
A, how much will i need? is two inch wide easier to wrap?
B, what sort would anyone recommend? ie is the chap stuff off e-gay any good Lol!:thumb:

I used about 30 feet of 2" wrap for my xe manifold matey! make sure you make it damp before wrapping it goes on much better then.

Cool, and it reached the front pipe joint?

50foot of 1" wrap was jsut enough to do a small block manifold with PROPER overlap...

i wuold make sure your wiring is out the way before you start to fix the problem by going about it the long way. Mine has never melted an i have a huge turbo an manifold that sits alot closer to the slam panel.

Ok phil , i hear what you are saying, and it's ok whilst the car is moving, but after the car had been standing for about 10 mins, the underbonnet temp really rises quickly. it goes from normal driving temp to fan running in about 4 mins. the plastic shrouding becomes soft and i reckon if i left it for about 20 mins or so it would be melting through. Not a situation i want to come across in traffic tbh, plus it's not helped by my front mounted fan covering approx only half of the rad. besides where would you reccomend it run it, under the slam panel? Would that not make it worse?
Surely a lower underbonnet temp is better for induction purposes too? So i could kill to birds with one stone. i don't have a manifold heatshield either, so i 'll be looking into getting one of those too.
Ta, john.

why not run a cool running thermostat and wire the fan on so its on the ignition live???

like this wrap http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Performance-Exhaust-Heat-Wrap-Thermo-Tec-2-x-50_W0QQitemZ130119713219QQihZ003QQcategoryZ38786QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
