dont know if this a common problem but mine and a mates redtops run rough untill they get warm then run ok been told they all do this????? doubt they do

cleaned the idle control valve still the same cant see why both cars are the same been told its the switch on the thermostat

Sounds like a stuck open thermostat to me. Swap it for a new one (about ?5 from unipart).
