View Full Version : 1984 Nova 1.0 Spin Minto
Took a few pictures of my new weapon the other night thanks to Keith Robinson, She is a 1984 Mk1 nova, totally standard and orignal with only 11,000 miles from new with fully stamped service book, car was owned by a school teacher who only drove it a few miles a day to and from work, she retired in 1996 and its been garaged ever since, hard to beleve how good a condition this car is in, i dont think youll find a more original one anywere, this car has never been touched up and is rustfree, Time Warp!!

keep it the way she is.. there is not so many mint novas like this. (although alot of you boys find these minters nowadays)
all the minters are in Ireland!

I would keep it like that. Definately. Wouldn't change a thing. Not even that freaky early 80's drivers mirror.
from the moment i bought her i knew that i had to keep her standard and original, far too clean to mess about about with like keith has done with his too low milers :D Im looking at a few out door airboubles as my garage space is limited, getting rid of those wheel trims and under sealing are first on the list, so anyone with minty hub caps give me a pm..

Hate to be picky buddy but its a Swing not a Spin:thumb:
The big badges on the door not give it away a little:roll:
Mint car tho mate, at least it will be looked after! Think it needs a 1.3 or 1.4 on DCOE's to finish it off

yeah as said above, a 1.3 would be better and stil keeping with it.
Only just realising what i wrote, of course i know its a swing just old age kicking in lol
No plans to mod it atall, it would only reck one of the last remaining original novas in Ireland/Uk Imo

Nice one, we'll hold you to that.
Get the thing filled full on Dinitrol cavity wax to stop the thing rotting away & keep it polished, you've got a nice motor there. It can only go up in value now.

nice find!
Im keen to buy some sort of carcoon to store it in as my garage space is limited, A carcoon is basicly an air bouble which keeps moisture away from the car to protect it from rusting, anyone have any experence on these and any recommendations ?
Post on passionford and ask the concourse boys what they use... Ive seen a few on there.
No-one does concourse like the ford boys:thumb:

snore!.....jesus you sound like my grandad. keith has got the right idea, find a mint one then use it as a base car for a decent nova. i couldnt think of much worse than driving around a standard b reg nova swing, gimping on to anorachs about how my novas got original paint and wheel trims and no wear on the original 80s interior blah blah blah. the reason 90% of novas are modified is because there utter **** as standard. keep that car like that and it would be an utter waste of a mint shell.never understood people who polish every nut and bolt on a car, keeping it in a protective bubble, its a car for fcuks sake, its there to be driven not bloody pampered.you must be a right laugh as a mate,'sorry lads not coming the pub tonight i want to strip down my original 80's carburettor and polish the insides'
snore zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzz:thumb:
I dont know if to be insulted or to laugh at your comment, You either dont own a nova or the one you have is a rust bucket and not worth keeping in mint condition, Im far from being an anorach, my other nova is a fairly modded 2L 8v re-sprayed rosso red with raffinhos i just feel this spin is too good to ruin just yet!! nuff said!

i can see where your both coming from.
but why use words like 'ruin' to describe moddified novas?
so you have ruined you 2.0 8v?
Maybe ruin aint the word im after then, With every passing year there are less and less low mile original novas about, my latest one is alot cleaner than i had expected, On the trip over to get it me and keith discussed possible ideas for it, Let it, Put my 2L 8V in it, etc but i just feel now that its far too clean in standard for me to change anything on it, I would agree that a standard nova is nuffin much to get excited over and subtle modifying has gained the nova its name with most ppl but me is keeping this one as it came out of the factory!! For the time being anyways..

you know you'll start fiddling:thumb:
only old ladys would be able to drive that around thinking 'hmm what a lovely car to drive'
if i already had another modified nova i would keep one totally standard, look at the prices mk1 escorts, mk1 fiestas, golfs etc are going for nowadays and alot of them are totally standard.
nice car very impressive how clean it is for its age

Phwoar!
I dont lame you for keeping it std. You have a modded one as you say.
That will fetch a mint in 15 years time. A rust free door would too. LOL
good find pal
i know its rude to ask but if you dont mind me asking what you pay for her ??
im glad i havnt foudn any of these minters as the 1st thing i wold do is strip it and burn the standard interior lol

Nice one mate, another low miler.. sweet
I know the interiors prity youck looking for 2007 but when you see it in the flesh its not as bad, really retro,
I paid ?1450, a flight to london and the boat + petrol back ?240, Grand total of ?1690, big money for a non nova person but well worth i think!

Yeah it is rather big money for a nova but we all know its worth it in the end...cracking example:thumb:

Awesome find fella!!
If you start boying it up you'll devalue it's mint original condition. I think the way forward is to keep your eye out for some mint old/new stock gen vauxhall performance parts, tweak the 1.3, uprate the brakes and get her to some shows :)
Dec
Yep fully agreed
20 years time of whatever it'll be worth more than it is now than boy'd up, or even GTE repped or whatever IMO
Picture Update time.. Binned the **** wheel trims only to find a nice set of sr steelys lurking behind.. decided to get them sandblasted as they were minging and didnt want hassle of rubbing them down by hand,
When getting them painted i had 2 options.. a standard mat silver or a more modern silver metalic.. I opted for the metalic as i thought it would give the wheels and car a really fresh look.. im really pleased the way they've turned out, you cant really see the metalic effect off the rim but they look great in the flesh.. Few pics below..

Can't get over how shiney the front valance is, no rust or anything. They've normally got holes the size of the grand canyon in them by now.

is it just me.................or is the bump strip below the petrol cap.............sitting lower than the rest?????
Purely gorgeous and soooo mint!
Could I suggest cleaning up underneath and then clear underseal used rather that plastering it in black muck?!
Goos sugestion simon.. I will look into clear underseal, the stuff there at the moment is in prity good shape i just wanted to freshen it up a little, dnt really want to plaster it in the rought black stuff either tho..
Managed to source a brand new set of headlight protectors, pics below arnt great but give you an idea of how they look on her, will have some better pics for the weekends NI vauxhall meet..

OMG that's criminally mint. Keep it standard, seriously. If youve got a modded one already, no need to change this one. Mk1s unmodded are seriosuly rare nowadays.
BTW a tip - get a silver felt pen and retouch the griffin badge on the front and on the hubcaps. I retouched the rear badges on mine and it looks brand new from the back now.
