View Full Version : My P1 killed - Nova Resurrected.

After 18 months of ownership, my beloved has been taken from me. A week past Tuesday (22.05.07) I was involved in a head on collision with a Corsa resulting in my P1 being written off. Luckily we were both able to walk away from the accident although suffered burns from the Airbag and bruising from the seatbelt. It was on a blind corner and the Corsa was on my side of the road but we both had no time to react. The pictures show the extent of the damage.

So, with the P1 out of the way and a gaping void in my garage, the sensible option was not to replace the P1 with another, but to thoroghly clean the Nova and get rid of 20 years worth of dirt and grime, however only 12,120 miles worth of use and only 1 winter, and tuck it up in the garage to keep it as best as possible. Spent 6 hours today cleaning it, including degreasing the engine bay, and a wee polish to give it a wee bit of a shine.

Needless to say, I'm gutted my dream car is gone, but pleased as punch that my more favoured car has a more promising future. If I lavish the same expense on the Nova that the P1 received in the last 18 months, this is likely to be one stunning car.

Here's the pics.

It wasn't the most pleasant experience in my life, hope I never have an airbag going off in my face again, they are horrible things. It's all still in the hands on the insurance company at this time.

Cheers,

Shaun.

With those odds, it was innevitable that I was going to crash into one then:cry:

Think there's even fewer Nova Saloons kicking about now than there are P1's. Keeping the Nova off the road now!!!!!!!! lol

How fast was you going?

And if that scoob was a Nova wouldn't it mean instant death?

Also i have a 1.2 Merit would i be able to get mine as clean and with loads of room left?

nice looking nova saloon - needs more in the engine bay though (2ltr?)

As for the corsa driver - taking the "racing line" on a blind corner. he's going down for that - would have loved to have seen his face if you'd been a tractor!

Earlier in the year I put it off the road as couldn't afford to insure it due to a reduced work-load, then the wife and I decided to down-size so the house went up for sale, work picked up a little so the P1 went back on the road. Showing people round the house made us realise how much we love the house, so the house came off the market and was intending to sell the P1. Then the gearbox packed in and I bit the bullet and had that re-built with new internals at a cost of ?1350 (almost 1 months mortgage payment) so it was decided the P1 was going to be up for sale once I got a few sctratches sorted out. Don't really have to worry about selling it now. LOL. I only travelled 20 miles to buy my P1, travelled 400 to buy the Nova - you can guess which one means more.

Oh and by the way, the other driver.......................

stick the spoiler from the P1 on the nova and you'll never know the difference! at least you were all ok though, even if it was your dream car

The thought had passed my mind, I even have the original scoop left as I had a taller STi7 one on it at the time of the crash......lol

I'd have thought that's pretty clear-cut in terms of insurance - you've got a good set of pics of the scene too which will come in handy. Shame to see it end up like that though, especially since you'd clearly looked after it, but as said at least it tried to eat a Corsa C in the process :D

As for the saloon, as said before it already looks stunning! Whats the plans for it?

That's a rael shame about the P1, as RJ said, i'd assume she was at fault and your claiming off her judging from her road position - with some clear photo's of it all aswell.
Onwards and upwards to better thing though :)

I am on the lookout for a donor car for a bigger engine, SR, GTE or GSI. Not thought much else after that, although I do want to get the bodywork tidied up more, got a small dent in the near side wing and door, then possibly a full re-spray. But that's not for a wee while yet......

I am hoping to buy the P1 back off the insurance company to break for parts, so not wanting to clog the garage up with Nova parts just yet.

Going to chase the insurance company today to see where we are.

Cheers for all the kind words guys.

Shaun.

Been chasing the insurance company quite a bit this week and was told it'd be today they'd get in touch, phoned lunchtime today and was told it wouldn't be until Monday now, so, went out for a nice meal with the wife, returned home and there was a message on the phone from the insurance chappy with the settlement, he finished at 5pm, got home just after 5pm. Things are not going my way just now.......did have a great lunch though. ha ha

I love driving my wee Nova, it's a different kind of enjoyment than just the shear power of the P1. The Nova's tucked up in the garage now and using my Astra Coupe everyday. It's got 123bhp so it's more halfway lol
