Ok, i'm trying to get my Nova done ready for TRAX, seeing as i'll be taking the Monza to VBOA, now i'm only little and by no means any sort of mechanic!

So, can i strip the engine down in order to take it out and make it lighter for lifting? i don't have any axel stands to take the wheels off and drop the engine out so i need to lift it out!

Also, how do i get the gearbox disconnected from the engine?

You could part strip the engine, but TBH it is going to be far easier to just buy some axle stands and a trolley jack or two and drop it as a whole lump. Then do the job in one place when you can arrange the dismantled parts in an order that makes sense to you, it makes reassembly far easier that way.

Shouldnt all these questions be in mechanical ?

Stu, why would i want to burn it!!??

Stan, it probably should, but as it's a general question about engine stripping i thought i'd put it here!

Bump, where do i look for axel stands?

just get some stands from halfrauds or similar, they'll do the job

Halfords are about the cheapest for stands, jacks etc.

I'm not fussed about cheapness, it needs to get the job done!

Wouldn't bother hiring axle stands lol You're looking at about a tenner from Halfords, and they're not bad.

Wasn't gonna hire them DOH! was thinking of hiring a hoist for the engine!

But that said, think the guy at the end of my road has one!

a proper engine hoist will make life a lot easier and quicker than stripping it all down. Hire one if you cant get your hands on one!

as above, engine hoist will be best.

atleast you will be able to get it out in one and move it easier so more room to work on/.

Gonna ask a guy who's welding my car see if he has one!

Then it'll be all systems go!

As a ballpark guide, it cost me about ?23 to hire an engine hoist for a day, including delivery and collection.
