View Full Version : Remote Locking

I'm wanting to de-lock my doors on the GTE but obviously will need to have remote locking to be able to get in....I'm going to get a decent alarm/immobiliser at the same time to do the job.....but the simple question is, how does it need to be set up?

What I mean is...on the Nova's central locking, the driver's door solenoid is only a switch so it can't be used to unlock the doors, so I gather I'd need a powered one like on the passenger's door?

How would I wire this up and would the Volvo solenoid, as used in the C/L guide, be the one to use?

Cheers.

P.S........does anyone recommend any particular alarm/immobiliser set up?
I've read in the post below about the probs peeps have had with Clifford, and how Toad are better.....what do other peeps think?

i ordered a toad c5 alarm recently. it came with really detailed wiring diagrams and it has loads of extras. In the guide it tells you how to wire the alarm up to your existing central locking kit and even the part number of the switch/motor you need to order!

yes mate, in the green machine i simply used 3 volvo passenger door motors for the remote locking

simple and easy
1 in each door and 1 for the tailgate

most alarm fitting places supply the second motor if needed. i know your not talking bout getting it fitted but its the easier way. i paid about ?20 extra for the second motor and the alarm guy sorted it all for me.

True, True...

Cheers lads.

rysmee.....I'm thinking of having it all done at once by an Alalm specialist, rather than doing it myself.....I was asking so that I'd be informed as to what was needed for when I ask for a quote.....I could supply the extra parts myself you see for less (Volvo servo = ?5 or less from scrappy...free if I wear baggy jeans ;))

I'd probably wire up the locking first myself too, so that the alarm place has less to do and hence would charge less.
