hi all,
since i crashed my gte at christmas, i haven't done anything to it. i've been at uni, and my dad's been telling me that car is slowly filling with mould...
i'm back in the next couple of weeks,a nd i'm looking to reshell it (once i find a shell). i was wondering whats the best way to check that the cam belt hasn't slipped or head damage, as the engine stopped on impact. i don't have the cambelt cover with the timing marks...
thanks
chris
If the engine stopped dead, chances are something smashed into the cambelt area(slam panel), or the dizzy snapped off or something.
Any pics of the engine?

Just turn it over by hand usingh the bottom pulley. If it goes round twice it should be OK from a cambelt/valves interface point of view.
My XE ran upside down when I crashed my Astra. It smashed the cam cover & what not but when the car was re-shelled about 5 months later everything was OK, the engine felt a little power-shy but after a couple days it loosened off. Probably down to being stood.

Looks like it mashed the cambelt.

the cambelt didn't come off, but it has slid half off. i can't determine if its slipped any teeth!?! i'll try craig's idea, i wazs thinking about turning it over by hand, i'll do it slowly.
in answer to the actual title, yes as ive done it loads of times
looking at that pic, it does look like the cambelt has slipped off the pully, you will probably find that one or two sensors have snapped off whilst your nova was in the process of demolishing itself :thumb: that will also contribute to a non starter
looks like you may of broke a spark plug too

i haven't tried to turn it over, and all sensors are in place, the sump guard protected the mbrand new manifold and engine. strut brace buckled and held the wing out. all four spark plugs are fine, you can see it in the pic its hidden (closest to the cambelt).
