View Full Version : Brakes
Ive got a 1.3 Sr and the brakes, although the discs and pads were replaced not so long before i bought it in march, are poor, pish poor! Under heavy braking it sometimes pulls to the right. What is the cause of this?
Also would Gte brakes need the gte servo to go with them?
Any information would be appreciated:thumb:

sounds like a slow caliper, one's working faster than the other,or even a worn flexie pipe thats expanding under preasure, not sure over the servo for the gte bits, i would think their the same all round, if i had my auto data installed i could find out
Its quite bad though my 1litres brakes were better and im a bit worried cos my gf drives it and is preggers!
More than likely the sliders or sticky / seized, DIY job to free them off but std Nova brakes are pretty sh*te anyway, GTE's use slighty bigger vented discs so will be a bit better, still not what i'd call good brakes tho ! changing the servo won't make any odds changing the master cylinder for a GTE would be an upgrade but can't see you noticing any difference tbh.
If your running 14's (not the std 3 spokes) then get your self some 16v discs and calipers from an Astra GTE / GSi ect ...

when was the brake fluid last changed? should be no longer than every 2 years, but other than that i'd be looking at the flexie pipe to see if it's expanding under pressure.
the onther other thing i can think of if it's not the above is that theres some crap on the weaker side, like oil/greese or brake cleaner on it
Thanks Rich ive just painted the 3 spokes so keeping them on.Also the fluid is a browny-black colour could that be a sign of anything?
Best bet is to change the fluid, check the flexi pipes (can't see it being them tbh), clean the discs then remove / clean and grease up the sliders. All diy stuff could be done in a couple of yours and cost you about ?5 in parts.
Failing that just bin them and stick some GTE bits on !!

:thumb: Thanks everyone:thumb:
sounds like the servo is funked. and either a sticking caliper, air in the syste, or oil on the pads
