Give em a good clean to get rid of old "back to black" or similar polishing stuff that might have been used on 'em.
Make sure they're dry and dust free then lightly build up layers of plastic primer (not high build).
You might want to lightly sand between layers to get a really smooth finish, making sure the surface is dry and clean before respraying.

Then, do basically the same with the final paint layers....build up gradually sanding between coats.
When the final coat is done, I always sand with really fine wet and dry using loads of water, then use rubbing compound to get a very good finish before finally polishing with Devlon (similar to T-Cut but includes wax)

Peeps normally say to leave the paint for at least a week to set hard before cutting with rubbing compound but I've found it's fine to do it on the same day......I've never had any probs doing it that way..if anything, it can be easier to get a good finish doing it when the paint is still a little soft.
