I've wondered that too!

Very considerate though, because 99% of spam does get posted in there

i know its odd. might be to do with foum numbering... might be they see "suggestions" and go there. but some make it into general and others into misc for sale..... its odd and not much we can do without a software tweek.

No issue, but like I said it does seem odd that most of it goes into that forum now.

Spammers with forum etiquette?

The forum does need a tweeek IMO, im not sure of the ins and out of Vbullitin, but the best way at the moment to combat it would be to restrict new users to posting URL's for 10 or so posts. I doubt spammers will hang around long enough to bother posting that many times.

Ive never been able to work it out with Invision, it gets right up my nose.

The forum needs a "NEWBIE" zone, where every new user has to post a thread and introduce themselves before they can post anywhere else on the site.... Ive seen that done on another site.

So they cant post in suggestions etc, starting complete bollox threads.

that all requires a software change iirc...... its not a simple setting, but should be.

Yeah i've looked and looked through the admin tools and there is nothing anywhere to make restrictive changes like those mentioned. i am sure there will be a plugin available, or a simple patch that can be copy/pasted into a few files to sort it out - but kev would have to do it.

I have thought that if the spammers are mostly bots that are bypassing the security designed to prevent them getting on here at all, then it could be that somewhere there is something that sends them in the direction of the faults & bugs & suggestions forum... something to do with the numbering system used - reminds me, must check if suggestions has the highest forum number or anything obvious.

Maybe we could just rename suggestions to "EVERYTHING IN HERE IS SPAM" and leave it at that saving us admin peeps loads of cleaning time.

Perhaps a robots.txt file with a loop in it, will upset google etc too though. I guess you can't win.

i dont think its worth the hassle of messing around with it. Just rename the forum that gets spammed to "viagra, loans & russian girls"
