Balls to that, most of their beers were around 3.5-4%, their ales about 4.5% and their "strong" ales 5%?! And "somerset cider" was Thatchers, wtf! Skanky sh*te, proper cider is cloudy and has bits in it. Including the odd dead rat, which I suspect is where the aforementioned black rat got its name lol

Jack
24-05-07, 10:03 AM
Real ale is ace, and doesn't taste of testicles like most beers*

Local ciders are good too; stuff like Magners, Thatchers and especially Strongbow all taste like puke (literally, I thought someone had already 'processed' some Strongbow I had the other day) compared to the decent local ones we get here, which, God forbid, actually taste of apples!

*not that I know what testicles taste like, but I'm making an assumption here

all the ponces drink magners/bullmers just because TV said its cool, same as when smirnoff ice first came out everyone was drinking that

Stuart
24-05-07, 10:34 AM
the birds bro drinks magners... thinking its the cool thing to do.... erm no its gay just like drinking chavpagne.

the great british beer festival is on soonish :) an NL pish up in london might need to be done lol

wisewood

cider such as strongbow etc taste like puke because it's what you drink on the streets with your mates when you're 14 (though kids today probably do it at 10).

You drink it until you're sick, every night... for 3 years. You associate the smell and taste with vomit for the rest of your life. I can't drink cider at all as a result.

I'ver never understood the snobbery around drinks. If you like it, great, if you don't - avoid it. Simple.

I think it's hillarious how bulmers have jumped on the magners over ice band-wagon. My mates have been drinking bulmers out of a 3 litre plastic bottle for years because it was the cheapest thing they could buy from co-op up the road to drink on their way to gigs and stuff. Trying to make it seem classy by putting ice in the glass is ridiculous.

i never touched cider, i was always on lager, then onto brandy lol

champagnes ok, altho the stuff at cheltenham wasnt great

and a london NL pishup sounds good :thumb:

Fosters Ice was the first lager i genuinely liked to drink. do they even still sell that stuff?

Then came the alcopop revolution :thumb: everyone thinking its cool to get pi$$ed on uber sweet lemonade

Stuart
24-05-07, 10:56 AM
then needing to shave your teeth in the morning lol

Bud ice was one of the first properly commercial lagers i could tollerate. then came uni in wales where i couldnt get a good pint of real ale so had to learn to drink carling :(

Mike

One of Alex's friends does, and yes she's a poncy attention whore lol

Fosters Ice was the first lager i genuinely liked to drink. do they even still sell that stuff?
Same here, and yep they do still sell it - although it doesn't quite taste as good as I remember.

Corona
You poof, Corona is a girl's drink! lol

wisewood
24-05-07, 12:07 PM
I think Fosters Ice not tasting as good is probably because since then all the other branded lagers have upped their game and tweaked their recipe to make the taste a bit "colder" and "crisper" than it was before.

Only problem is that warm beer tastes worse now than ever lol

draper
24-05-07, 12:15 PM
but the cold variety is just run th ecompressor twice, its all a con

whats people dislikes drinks wise ??

kronnebourg blanc is rank, and expensive !!

Stuart
24-05-07, 12:22 PM
blanc is lovely :) I love weiss beers like that.

my hate is chavpagne, fosters, carling, stella, cheap lager, "smooth" variants of ales, white wine and cheap red wine.

loves:
Real ales, blanc, leffe, peetermans, staropramen, good red wine, warsteiner, infact most german pillsners, budvar (esp black thats like drinking treacle)

i could go on lol

draper
24-05-07, 12:24 PM
i cant drink fosters/carling/weaker lagers now

well i can but i drink gallons of the stuff, comes from years of stella/kronnenbourg i suppose lol

MMMM cider.

Jack
24-05-07, 12:35 PM
What cider though... I never used to like cider until recently, I prefer dry though. Wouldn't touch the aforementioned strongbow/thatchers/bullmers/magners/etc. Australian wines are usually nice too, as are ales, special brew, and john smiths topped up with a few shots of vodka.

I don't like Stella (and most lagers but thats because I'm used to the taste of ale), fizzy faux-wines/champagne, and Guiness.

Blackthorn is my favorite.

Jacobs Creek - made in the barossa valley (spelling?). My family used to live there. Makes buying presents for the grandparents easy and cheap lol

I fell in love with Magners while i was in Belfast, I drank gallons of the stuff. Difficult to find it on the pump over here though. Hopefully that will change as it becomes more popular.
