the bolt has snaped in half and i cant get to the bit with mole grips as its actully in the hole
Or one of those little chisel tap sets.
Chap who built my engine managed to get my sheared alternator bolt out from about 1cm inside the block !

a friend of mine works in a engine recondition place and he told me that using a stud extractor could do more harm than good take it to a engine place will cost less than you think

this will sound silly now but how do you use an extractor?
I did the same all though it snapped flush, the thread was quite lose and i managed to push it round with a tiny screwdriver, which was lucky as i was just leaving for work.

It shouldn't cost you much for a cam carrier from a scrapyard? I've got a few smallblock 8v ones you could have, but you're a bit far away to collect them unfortunately.
