Good call, although a Cav will probably fold up in a bad crash just as badly. Get a good 5 star NCap rated car to protect your family (although that may mean buying a french car  )

Congrats!

I have a 2 year old, and she'll go in both my Monza and Nova!

As long as you have an upto date car seat, and it's fitted properly you should be fine!

But as said, it's other road users you have to think about!

Gratulations mate. Don't worry it fits! More comfortable is a bigger car but it fits!

I've found that with the backwards facing baby seat we used to use for my nephew, that the rear belts wouldn't lock in place as they weren't long enough. The front ones worked when you folded the seat flatter which wasn't ideal so check your babyseat fits safely ok in the car before you buy it. We were allowed to try a different one from a babies r us i think it was.
Having a 5 door also helps though when Modou goes in the back, unless of course, he's driving.

Personally I'd see it as an act of cruelty to put a child under the age of about 10 in a nova (or any small car released to production before 2000)

I wasnt happy with the gf taking her mates 5yr old out in her 106, and i sure as hell wouldnt be happy with that in a nova either......

Youve got to ask yourself, do you value your nova more than your child?

no chance stuart you have got a good point mate! i thank you for that, as ive said i would keep the nova(in the garage to do engine conversion and just use that for going to shows/track days and probz get a nica astra or escort for a daily car because as a few have said a nova will not take much in a crash thanks for everyones help on this!!

If money is tight (and lets face it, it usually is) then put a cage in the Nova. Instant strength!!

My kids just want to drive it.

Personally theres no way i'd use a nova as a everyday driver with kids.
Just too unsafe, and too bangy/crashy/rattly,Lol

Get a cheap omega or some other barge :D

pmsl!

take the nova off the road (sorn) and get another motor.

As above re other road users but tbh youre best getting a bigger car - its amazing how much stuff you need for the little buggers!

I dont have kids - yet - but based on my sister and pals whove had kids theyve all recently upgraded to estate cars (volvo's mainly) simply because of the space factor!

Plus your volvo is a feckin tank!

To be fair Ade does speak the truth. When you take a baby anywhere its like mobilising an army!!

However (and I don't pretend to know anyones financal circumstances) a new car could be out of the question if money is tight and if it isn't tight now then it probably will be once the baby arrives. So saying buy a new(or used) car maybe a unrealistic goal.

However I've always found that whatever your circumstances you always manage and find a way. When I had my first child I didn't even own a car and would have given my back teeth to own a Nova to get around in, so as far as im concerned your one up on me and I would have driven my family around in a Nova.

If you have money and can afford other cars, then fair enough. But to say 'Its an act of curelty' to take kids out in a Nova is a bit harsh (Stu) since if thats all you have then thats all you can work with. It would be 'An act of cruelty' if you drove the car like a complete tit but I would hope that, thats not the case.

id go for an omega or vectra as mentioned, just make sure its leather so wiping babysick is easier lol

Congratulations!!!!

Just make sure you buy a good car seat, they're designed to protect the baby in case of an accident regardless of how many euro-ncap stars your car does or doesnt have... Lack of airbags etc in the car makes no difference, as you're not supposed to have an air bag active on the passenger seat if the baby seat is there anyway.

So i take it that the other half is "late" and is off to the doctors for a quick pee in a bottle? so they can whip out an NHS clearblue stick and tell you what you've known for a week having done seven tests of your own lol

When i was a kid we didn't have a car, so went everywhere on the bus lol

When i was about 4 mum got together with a guy who had a very nice white mk2 escort... they used to tell me the orange hazard switch was a turbo boost like knight rider had lol that car got stolen from asda car park while we were shopping when i was 6. we wandered round the car park for aaaaaa ages.

congrats matey!

TBH you've got nothing to worry about until the baby hits about 14 - then youd better hide the keys for fear of them nicking the fecker one night!

Only jokin.

Seriously though people give novas a bad rap with kids but if they werent "safe" they wouldnt be allowed on the roads.

Christ - thje only way to protect a baby is either buy a very large off roader (BAD!) or dont take it out.

And statistically if youre in a built up area youre more likely to get hit be a car as a pedestrian than be involved in an accident on the road.

Personally, my sons arrival scared me into getting my dreams finished. I was terrified of buying a four door car went for K reg GSI with a 2L turbo lump. He loves my car much more than my wifes MK1 Golf cab.

The great thing about a nova is when you crash they don't need a coffin!!lol
