17" wheels on a Mk 1

Hi I am thinking of putting 17" wheels on but have been told i will need to do a lot of work on the front & rear arches can someone please explane what needs to be done and how to do it if posable THANX :D

i think, but dont quote me on it, you need:
-rolled front and rear arches
-flared rear arches(maybe not if you get the right offset)
-a lot of cash!
rolling arches is just getting rid of the lip on the arch. some people hammer it up or cut it off, but the best thing to do is roll it so it creates more space between wheel and arch if you see what i mean?
For flared arches i would get a bodyshop to do it, basically they knock the arch out more away from the body.its not easy and can be quite costly, but if you get it all done while getting it resprayed or something then they may do it cheaper!!
