Not that youve ever thought about thislist before!!lol A very well thought out list :thumb: I had to google some of them

lol none of you people seem to think that new cars are actually better than the old ones. an old car in brand new condition is still an old car, get something modern on the list, something a bit more refined.

Audi R8 - poor mans veyron, maybe.
http://magazine.avtoindex.com/images/forum/2006/audi_r8_1.jpg

It'd be fantastic to own a couple of factory condition classics, but given an option of any 10 from the factory, built for me, cars - at least 7 of them on my list would be modern cars. I like creature comforts, and advanced engineering & technology.

new cars do not suck.
you just haven't had time to see them as part of the furniture and landscape yet.

Stuart

most new cars are dull as feck though... its rare to find one with soul/chracter.

New cars have a lot annoying traits IMO, such as the flash thrice indicators, they seem to be made of cheaper materials with every year that passes. Build quality is noticeably poorer on almost every one IMO (exceptions for supercars poss. as I have not really had the chance to compare Lol)

Stoo

so you think the latest corsa is a poorer fit and finish than the nova then, lol open your eyes to what you're saying.

mk1 nova - plastic dash. cheap plastic at that.
available in brown or grey lol nice.

I see your point re soul / character Stu, but it doesn't make them a good car, or well designed or well made, just interesting.

Modern manufacturing, economy, power & reliability all the way for me.

Every manufacturer will assemble something perceived inferior to its previous model at some point. Change in designer or pitching at a slightly different market will see to that.

Generally speaking i think modern cars are better put together than old ones.

Agreed on build quality, but some old cars have achingly beautiful styling that looked good then and still looks good today, most of which would just not be feasible with todays safety regs (for example the 'gullwing' 1955 Merc 300SL). I'm not sure if some modern cars will wear their age so well!

Stuart

build quality is better thesedays but most stuff gets cost downed so winds up with naff grade plastics etc... still assembled well (usually) though

wisewood
22-05-07, 01:57 PM
Now you see you've not picked the best example there for me.
I think the styling on that is dated, and not particularly attractive... curves, lumps and bumps cobbled together is all i see when i look at it.

and i really don't like the way the cabin sits on top of the body either. :D

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. it must be, I'm gorgeous, but someone sent me a private message last week on here saying how ugly i was - very random lol

Stuart

Just the way I like my women....lol

beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Absolutely right there mate, although to me the Merc is beautiful in the metal from certain angles, plus I love the quality/level of the engineering of them for an old car which was a 'production' car, compared to say a Jaguar (XK140) of a similar age.
