hi matt how much did it set you back to have the bottom end bored out mate
hello, i cant remember exactly but i think it was roughly 200 to have the block skimmed, bored and honed and the crank polished and balanced
I've a feeling that inlet is going to get sucked inwards
if you mean the silicone hose to the turbo then i think they will be fine as there 4 ply and tough as hell

ive also got all running gear back on, brakes are bled up and shafts are in.
decided to go with stock tie bar brackets with poly bushes as i didnt like the look of the rose jointed ones that were on it previously that had been made up using the stock brackets, i did buy a set of rose jointed lowered brackets from protec but they were total trash so i sent them back

You can buy alloy theaded outlets and have them tig welded to your header tank - I have seen the outlets on ebay
If your struggling to find a decent TIG welder - I have a man who can :thumb:

no ive never really thought about doing that, im not that bothered about running lowered ones tbh
I thought the car was on the Pilbeam setup ?
Looking good so far though.
If anyone ever needs weld on fittings I sell them.

jonlem, it has pilbeam suspension but just stock tie bar/bottom arm setup
benn, ive always bought my oil/filters from local motor factors with no problems so i just stick to that lol, quite abit off being back on the road as i need management, wastegate, wheels blasted/painted and the new boot and rear bumper painted

Yes they come with brackets, he just changed to a new design of arms which is why only those are pictured. The brackets can be seen on the first few pages of his build thread.

is them wheels of your mates the 14" variant as they did come with the euro sport decals as they were the ones that were used on the grp a rally novas back in the day, whereas i have the 15" version that wasnt as far as im aware used for the gm rallying, thats why i assume the decals are slightly different
They are 15" and still typically don't fit over the brakes !
As for the decals, not sure on that one, HH may of got their wires crossed on the info as they even told him the brake kit would fit behind these wheels so they must of known they weren't 14's.
Just seemed odd that yours had Sparco and OZ written on them, makes no odds though, still lovely wheels.

Been to see him today about a few bits and the decals were taken from the build manual which shows his brakes on a Grp A car which ofcourse must of run 15's.
Strangely I didn't see a pic in there of the type you have but he had heard of them.
At a guess 14's were probably for gravel setup and the 15's were tarmac wheels
Jon, just seen that arm setup a few pages back, any reason the TCA and wishbone link is on a single bolt, I.E free to move in one plane? Does it lock against itself if you were to fix it permanently?
The single bolt fixing doesn't move, its just adjustable so you can change the angle of the tie rod when required and just then tighten it up.

hi jason, yes the manifold will fit on yours id say, i just had to trim the slam panel a bit, nortech made it for me to be as compact as possible. are you thinking of going for a tubular manifold/turbo combo?
Just looking a head really as kkk don't last long, and like the quality of the nortech and would put a garrett as more reliable and more power if i need to.Yours will be mad when all done as mines a hand full runing best part of 300bhp let alone 400bhp but will be interested to see if the gear box can take it ?
Looks great! Black cooler would look good and tie in with the wheels?. I painted myne black and it had no effects on the inlet charge temp, I just used aluminium primer and satin black.

they are built to handle rough treatment but im not sure if it will cope with the torque of the turbo motor, id say that could be the killer!

i might go down that route dan but ill see what i think of it when i get it out the garage and have a propper look
there only one way to find out ,when do you think it will be on the road? it will be pricey to repair that gearbox but they are good fun and make a awesome noise
Hi guys, This is a little update of what we've been up to for Matt recently........... As some of you know he's never been a big fan of the back end of his motor and has wanted to change it for a while. Now I just happened to have a mint early tailgate sat around which I let him have and he found himself a genuine gsi rear bumper. Im sure you can guess were this is going! However he did want to go for a smoother look so we welded up the holes and filled/primed it to suit...........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/IMG00074-20111222-1555.jpg
That was left over christmas to allow for any movement in the primer and blocked down once I was back in work along with the bumper. We opted to use the original 2k solid paint the car was previously painted in as oppose to base and clear not only for a better colour match but also so these panels will in time fade with the rest of the cars paintwork and not standout at a later date which is what could have happened if we'd have used a quality clear. Just earlier today I got the colour on and heres's the results..........

mint early boot, i fkn love it too
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/rich16v/c7e310c4.jpg
i got the spoiler taken off the smooth boot eventually and i found a simple but very effective way of getting the holes for the spoiler in the correct place on the new boot
a bit of ratchet strap! hold left end flush with the side of the boot and running level with the recess the window rubber sits in and it runs nicley over the centre of the spoiler holes so i just marked the centre of the holes on the strap and hey presto!

Im still not convinced it make much difference if you have a good clutch and diff, as i see it as another joint means anorther weakness?
But big block/shafts are a better option IMO.

Its a solid straight splined bar though, so hardly a weakness imo. Its not like your chucking an extra cv joint into the drivetrain.

and when i was finished fitting the axle and it was back on its wheels i noticed it was sitting slightly higher on the drivers side rear, i havnt taken much notice before hand but after some head scratching and pi55ing around i discovered the front drivers side was sitting approx 10mm higher than the pass side therefore puttting more weight on the rear pass side and making it sit lower on that corner so after some more pi55ing around it turns out my strut insert seals are bust and pi55ing oil out and also theres a internal problem with the insert as it should have around 5" travel and it will only push in 3" max, thats why it was sitting higher on that front corner, not sure what make the insert is, fearless thinks its either bilstein or decarbon. ill just send it to hockly and let him fix it i think. some times its just one thing after another lol

What are the straps for?
Straps are used to restrict the droop on the rear beam - stopping the springs from falling out
Its an old trick the rally boys used to do - in fact they used the same progressive spring in the rear for forest and tarmac events but used the straps to 'lower' the rear for tarmac events, by compressing the rear suspension and using the strap to hold the desired height !!!

Without stripping mine down I can't confirm which ones you have
The pilbeam struts came from Iain at Eurorally and were sold as Tarmac spec Pilbeam Struts - but I cant remember what he said the inserts were - I have a feeling he said Decarbon (thats what the works rally novas originally ran)
A quick call the Martin at Harry Hockly Motorsport should give you all the info you need - what he doesnt know about nova's isn't worth knowing

A search around the internet suggest its a Decarbon Number -
Quote :"The CR05 code is a De Carbon number. I think that this was a gravel rear shock. I think that CR03 was tarmac"
So you'd think CF would be front

From what I understand they take both Bilstein and decarbon inserts - both the same design just different rating /manufacturer
Martin at HHMS has worked on Nova's since they started rallying them - He'll know

he didnt, he just said they were all the same! he is selling them at 12 plus vat plus postage so not much change out of £150
i wouldnt have thought
ralloy sell these http://www.ralloy.com/ral2062-bilstein-insert-30070-tarmac-short_c51p299.php and they are about the same dimensions as what hockly said but there cheaper, what do you think about them ?

Now i will get shot down for saying this, but i was never as impressed as some when Brett had this car, but now mate I'm very impressed with what your turning it into!
A proper built engine to match the sort of performance it should have.
And the water pipes in braided is very interesting, did you get the tank customised for that?
Also have you got two blow off valves?
Best of luck with it all mate

thanks for comments, graeme the temp covers will remain until mapping is done to prevent any scratches etc
thanks scott, much appriciated! i only have the one bov, the other part you can see is the wastegate, the tank was modified with 2 aluminium weld on -6 jic male bosses so i could connect the -6 braided fittings to it
matt
1 blow off valve and one external wastegate in the same style it looks to me Scott.
Always loved the motorsport styling of this :)
