View Full Version : Gear Box and Speedo Probs
Right, i changed the box in my car but as it happens the new one is an Electronic Read out Box as opposed to the Cable Box origionally fitted. Now although the cable sensor fits in, it wont read the speed. Whats the problem and hows it sorted?
What car / gearbox is it ?

right i'm guessing its a nova, what did the box come out of?
I dunno what the box came out of, it wasn't marked with an F number. The box is on a 1600 Mk3 Cav here which needs tested and soon. Any ideas?

you will need a set of clocks that uses a speedo pulse and not a cable!
Yeah but wha wiring etc do i need and how is it Converted?
cant you just put the speedo drive out of your old box into this one?
You need the gear ring that drives the speedo cable.
Which is what burgo means above i think.
Ok, whats that and where is it gotten from then so?

get it of your old gearbox, where the speedo cable connects
Is that not inside the box though?
im not 100% sure but i think you can just swop the speedo drives which are just hld in with one 10mm bolt
Nope, i tried that and it doesnt work.
That doesn't work because the box itself has no speedo ring.
The drive gear on the end of the speedo cable thingy runs on a ring in the box, electronically driven boxes dont have the ring fitted.
You could probably fit it, but its probably a completely box strip down job to do.
Cant you just get some electronic clocks and fit a speed sender to the box and use that?
YES!!!!!! Thats what i want to do, but i need to know about the wiring and what goes where.
The speed senders only have 3wires, a black,brown,and red/blue.
Just the red/blue gets run to the speedo to drive it.
