Keeps cutting out!

Hi , I have a 2litre 16v eco-tec lump fitted (vectra type) i recently bought it and the last couple of days i am getting the car having a funny 5 minutes,its alright one minute and not the next, revs rise to 3k at tickover for about 10 seconds, it then hunts up and down then dies, engine management light comes on, but the car always restarts, thought it could be damp on a sensor, what should i be looking for? Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance Dudley.

could be idle control valve nackered or needs a clean

i would say the same or if not just give it a good service.

um.. yep got that, will take it off and clean it, see how we go,:)

These engines love to munch on cam shaft sensors, but the usual to look fo rfirst are airleaks an idle speed control valve.

I rang Vaux dealer ?104 plus vat!, bought one at a breakers for a tenner, but the bloody car has ran fine as it was ! Probably damp somewere,that WD40 worked its magic, but im hanging on to the valve just in case. cheers Dud.
